I'm starting to think Mullen knows this is his last year. What other explanation could there be for not firing Grantham yesterday? It's a bye week, he'd have 2 weeks to get someone else ready for uga. Hell LSU won and still didn't waste anytime firing Ogre. Mullen must believe he's moving on sooner rather than later so firing his friend would be pointless. If Grantham isn't fired today I'd be shocked if their both not gone at the end of the year, unless he somehow pulls off a miracle and beats georgia. That'd one win would save Mullen but I'm sure he'd still be forced to fire Grantham after the season by the higher ups.

The bigger issue in my opinion is that I believe only 2 of our last 6 coaches actually wanted to coach here at the end of their tenure. SOS and Meyer quit. Butters forced the admin's hand with the death threat bull shyt and we all know why. It looks like Mullen is attempting to do the same and no one believes he wants to be here. Zook and Muschamp were probably the 2 dumbest ones of the bunch but those bastards would have given their left nut to stay.

Zook and Chump out worked the sh!t out of Mac and Mullen. Mac and Mullen have to be the laziest bastards that UF ever hired. They all 4 suck ass, but at least you saw effort out of Chump and the Zooker.

And of course the always unreasonable “who would we replace him with” where the pumpers insist the replacement has to basically be Saban or we can’t fire Mullen.
I have a small (very small) amount of sympathy with this sentiment, but only to the extent that given who will be making the decision on the next hire, we could easily end up with a worse hire - though that doesn't really seem possible at the moment.

The fascinating part of this thread for me is the lack of any kind of consensus among the chatterers on who would be a good choice to hire as a replacement. And I can certainly see why. Looking around college football, the better P5 coaches are all either not going to be interested or we wouldn't want them (or both). Yes if there's a guy in that group you really want you make an offer, but I believe all of them would say no. The leaves an NFL guy, and most of those where there might be mutual interest do not have head coaching experience, a P5 coordinator, again who will more than likely never have been a HC, or a lower level coach. Throw in the fact that we must hire an excellent recruiter this time and field gets narrower and narrower.

An interesting farce we have going on:

Fuchs: The Emperor – The wannbe academic - It stings him when he is looked down upon at social mixers by the Stanfords and Harvards of the world. He proudly shows off his top 5 public university ring but behind his back and not out of earshot they laugh. His only requirement for an AD is to never be seen or heard. Stricky has been showing up in his morning brief and this gives him angina. Quietly a search has begun.

Stricklan: The Fool – He thought he had an easy job in raising money by holding the football complex hostage, Give the non-revenue sports whatever they wanted and claim the all sports trophy. And build a nice comfy ball field to watch his beloved baseball. A cushy job for sure. He got a mulligan with Mac. Sure it took some clandestine death threats to pull it off but a good AD knows a bit of skullduggery. But now he faces a scandal that has put him on Fuchs call sheet. And just when he thought he could sweep that under the rug Football, that bane of any ADs existence, has come calling. What to do? Can he buy time by making a swift coaching change? Or is his goose so cooked that he may as well leave the problem for the next fool.

<name soon to be redacted> - He made it to the top of the mountain. It had been so easy for Meyer. Five star recruits beat the door down to play for Florida. And under Dan’s clever tutelage he had molded two talentless QBs to national titles and a Heisman. This was gonna be so easy that he could even bring along his friends. Frequent vacations in the islands, costume parties. Oh what fun will be had. Nobody to second guess his remarkable eye for talent. So be it if it ran counter to the recruiting services. What do they know after all? His sycophants would guard him from the idiot fans and boosters. "If only they knew what I know, he thought". AR just isn’t ready. Like Trask before him. Even Tebow sat behind that pretender Chris Leak. What good is a QB that can throw perfect spirals on a dime if he can’t be counted on to bull his way up the middle on 4th and 4? Sure there have been some bumps in the road. Now even the usually docile press have become insolent. But never the mind. Stay the course. Winning isn’t everything. Multi-million dollar buyouts heal all wounds.

Fat Todd – “What the f*ck am I doing”. I'm the poster child for the Peter principle. Everything I know about football I learned in Pop Warner. Yet I have been blessed. First my alma mater took me in. I failed miserably there but then that weekend with Dan Mullen happened. Thank God for phone cameras. Now Dan has to take me where ever he goes. And defense is hard. The offense scores 42 I give up 49. They score 29 I give up 31. Score 46 I give up 52. Score 34, give up 37. Score 38, give up 41. And on and on. I’m no miracle worker!

You might fail the next time is no reason to keep failing with this guy.

I wouldn't think you could find a worse offensive mind than Muschamp, but you just did it. I don't think I would watch a single game again if he were hired. One of the worst head coaches I have ever seen.
In case it wasn't obvious, this was a joke. This guy is one of the most horrific coaches I've ever seen.

Anyone who would utter these words should be sterilized. If there's one thing that's crystal clear over a 15 year track record, it's that Mullen NEVER learns from mistakes. Never. He does the same damn things over and over.

His game plan and play calls are still the same one that lost the 2008 Ole Miss game.

He's smart enough to understand he'd need defense to win it all, and took some steps in that direction between '19 and '20. But maybe the most impressive thing he's done is benching Spencer Rattler for the Freshman. In one move, he showed that he wasn't afraid to make the tough decision to play the best player AND showed that the hype surrounding his entrenched QB was largely due to a performance in the Cotton which is meaningless at this point because the opposing DC sucks. Perfect.

Sign him tomorrow and make Mullen clean out his desk drawers while LR stands over him.

Soooo….LSU gets first pick. How far down the list will we be before we get to pick?

USCe gets first pick, then LSU, then Penn State (because Franklin is getting one of those jobs), then who knows?

I'm sure you mean Uscw, but yes I agree. It may be why any pick this year would be a bit more obscure like a coordinator. It may also be what helps DM live to see 2022. Some big jobs are available this year, and I also wouldn't count out miami having their hat in the search ring this offseason as well.

I was one of many at The Swamp who booed loudly as Chris Leak replaced Tebow vs Kentucky in 2006. I got ripped on another board years ago pointing out how we could have easily lost against Georgia, The Cocks and FSU with Leak running the offense. Not to mention Leak threw a pic six via a shovel/shuffle pass. I can't even remember seeing a shovel pass ever getting picked off other than Leaks.
Yeah yeah Tebow was just a freshman but so is Caleb Williams at OU.

Your reading comprehension continues to suck.

I realize that reading every single post, rating them all, and responding to 25% of them while balancing a job and family forces you to read quickly, but at least slow down to where you understand what’s being posted. Truth be told, it’s kind of amazing.

I never said keep Mullen. I admit I’ve been slow to getting on board the fire him train, but I’m on now and in my seat. I merely understand the reluctance of some people based on the fear of us sinking even lower. They have been conditioned, much like lifers in prison become conditioned, to accept mediocrity.
