He shouldn't bring any of them.

He immediately revamped the whole system at ULL, recognizing and insisting that it was the only way to win there. He’s not going to come here and pretend that everything’s fine. There’s no evidence at all to suggest that he doesn’t at least get what has to be done. There’s visible evidence to the contrary.

Listen to these guys. Basically saying we’re cheap af.

I didn't hear that at all from them. They opined that UF should not have fired Mullen to go get a Napier type coach. They felt that if you fire Mullen, you better be going after a bigger name.

I can say that I agree with that. I think you want to get the best fit for you not the biggest name.

Napier might need to give up the dual role but he probably won't unless forced to.

Helfrich isn't a grand slam because he's an awful recruiter.

We have different philosophies here. Napier will recruit fine regardless of the OC he hires. The biggest danger with Napier is going to be incompetence on offense. That is why OC will be such an important hire for him. He needs an OC that is a savant as a play caller, so that we don't end up with a Coley, Jeff Bowden, Pease kind of situation. There is not a better resume out there that is a realistic option at the OC position than Helfrich. You don't sacrifice competence and skill at OC for recruiting. You want a guy who has a long track record of sustained success at the QB position. Darren Thomas, Marcus Marriota, and then he identified and recruited Justin Herbert to Oregon.

And you don’t know UF well enough to know that at least part of the reason is because of money?

We'll see. Dude sounds a little too good for me. And too much of a goodie two shoes for me. And we've heard great things about previous hires. But at least we had heard of them and had some read. We know little about Napier because he hasn't been on anybodies radar.
Even the good things about him are red flags:

"Fiercely loyal to assistants and players": We know what that means.
Listen to the pod casters that have covered him for 4 years.
When asked if he'd play talent over seniority they said TBD.
He's a family man that studies football day and night. I want a coach who can't remember the last time he saw his family and recruits day and night. Also they described him as a "comfortable" recruiter. Honestly that sounds like he's recruiting family members.

No I think much of the money talk in coaching hires is because the AD now AD emeritus want credit for finding the next guy. Thus he talks poor so he can hire a Napier and discover the next star coach.

I think of there was a definitive Meyer out there, and we didn’t go that route, their point is valid. But where they are wrong is that Mullen was doing damage and we had to make a move. I’d love to see a total slam dunk available out there but I don’t. We’re stuck either getting a younger, less experienced HC/Coordinator or a retread that hasn’t technically accomplished anything.

I'll be the first to admit its a bad year to go after a coach and the pickings are pretty slim. I'm with you on one point- our only path is to go and get a less experienced HC that has shown success and experience. My problem with Napier is his seemingly aversion to go downfield or to have a competent downfield game. He's number six in the Sunbelt Conference in passing. That does not bode well for us.....

Where we agree is that we’ll have to see. Other than that, I think we’re looking for issues, in large part, because of our own recent history. If it were 2011, we’d be fine. Anyone who takes the approach he’s taken to recruiting and structure of a program is wanting to win. If he losing, he’s not standing by and keeping failed assistants. There’s nothing to support that.

As for player selection, his QB is a Sr but has started since he was a Sophomore. His top RB the year is a Soph, followed by a Freshman. The guy with the least amount of carries is a Jr.

Wide recievers can't look bad when you aren't throwing to them that's for sure....

Amari Cooper, Calvin Ridley...the guy has a resume to sell to recruits in Florida as a WR coach. If he gets the right OC they can throw the ball more. They certainly threw the ball around under Kiffin. Maybe he could go get Kendal Briles, since Briles was with Kiffin at FAU.

Also for all the recruiting is everything guys, you need to hire a coach that runs systems that are suitable for the type of players your recruiting base produces. Florida produces WRs, DL, DBs, not so much OL and LBs. That makes Napier fit UF less well.

Approach? In the Sunbelt I bet all you have to do to a recruit a player IS approach him.
Must've been tough. /s
We're soo desperate some of you are not looking for issues.

I’d rather more passing as well. But if we’re first in rushing and mid SEC in passing, while winning, playing great defense and recruiting well, I’ll be ok with that.

why people rhink these alpha alphas are going to change.

Well, hopefully UF did their HW and inquired about this with Napier before the contract was offered. If there is an agreement ahead of time that he'll bring in an OC with a thick track record of offensive success, then we are good.

Remember when I said we may be looking for things to dislike? They keep score for a reason, regardless of what conference. He was also known for doing well at Alabama and implemented that strategy at ULL.
