Has anyone gotten more run as an up-and-comer than Matt Campbell? You can’t download a story about a big opening without seeing his name mentioned as a possible candidate. And yet all he does is consistently underachieve at Iowa State.

It’s similar to Kirk Firenze years ago. Or Mullen at MSU or Stoops at KY. He’s done better than you’d expect with less talent in a conference dominated by an elite program or 2. Iowa State is a never-was and never-will-be sort of place.

Developing a decent program in those circumstances is laudable but doesn’t usually translate into elite success at a place like UF, USC, or TX where the potential is high.

It can (Saban), or an elevated coordinator might (Day) or maybe even a position coach (Dabo) or a G5 guy (Meyer) or a retread NFL guy (Carroll). The problem is they are rare. There is no formula. The right guy at the right time in the right place is super tough to align.

Once they have proven themselves, you can’t get ‘em.

Well almost as impressive as 10 wins in the Sunbelt..... almost

The two come as a package that can’t and shouldn’t be overlooked. But it will. We once again lock in on the first candidate.

You really think that tard is the long-term answer at UF? Really? You really believe that? You REALLY believe he rebuilds the program and we win titles with that idiot?

Just as total offense doesn’t matter if RZ efficiency sucks, total defense takes a back seat to PPG. You need look no further than the post you quoted for the answer.
Their defense SUCKS. One of the worst in the nation.

I think he’s already shown himself to be a great hire in the SEC West. I think Billy Napier continues to coach against Sun Belt competition.

Kiffin and Durkin as a tag team are going to rewrite the record books.

Ya know. This ain't the first time you've just made shyt up. The West ain't that weak. Kiffy has replaced LSU. And the West is still better than the East. Top 3 in the East 25-8. The West 28-6.
ltraz explained how Kiffy's 10 wins are different than Mullen's.
You don't need two PHDs to figure his stuff out.

The top 3 in the East in 2013 were 29-7 at this point. It was comprised of Mizzou, Usce, and a bad uga team. The powers don’t get replaced. They’re simply temporarily displaced. No one was afraid of that division. When the East was considered great, at least 2 of the big 3 were playing well. This year’s West is Alabama, considerable step down OM/A&M, and then average teams. His record is still his record, which is an accomplishment. I just don’t see the West, outside of Alabama, as being as daunting as in years past. And no, there is literally no difference between winning 10 this year and winning 10 in Starkville in 2014. Zero. Both are impressive given the built in disadvantages, but both have asterisks because of the temperature of the division and the added game post-2006, meaning they’d be 9 win seasons for those year’s coaches.

@ltraz

I do see this year’s Tide team as being imperfect, which is why we had a shot, Ark had a shot, A&M beat them and uga will likely be favored. I don’t hold the loss against him at all, but I do think the way it began is brutal. OM rarely belongs on the field with Ala, so it’s about what it should’ve been.

To be clear, I’m not discrediting LK and as I’ve said he’d be fine by me. I like to argue as you can see. Especially with inlaws in town and South African strain news to wake up to. Enjoy your day gentlemen.

Also this place is a cesspool.

I highly doubt Stricks has even considered kiffin. Whether he should or not is another discussion, but he won’t be our coach period

Well, you know the holidays are here and gotta buy presents for the kids and ex coaches. So there just isn't time to go looking all over the place. and hey it's not Stricklands millions so his bank account is secure regardless who he hires.
