Brad mentioned earlier that Slevin threatened to literally share his personal views with the HR department of the company he works for. This wasn't hyperbole, some people are dead serious about doing this and have done it. The PF had to be hidden for reasons such as this. Right now, speech isn't nearly as free as it's supposed to be.

At the end of the day, this isn't a political site, it's a sports site. I detest having to discuss political issues on the Main Sports Forum, but I'm left with no choice. They are now intertwined.

I know folks this has happened to and it’s why I don’t mix my sh!tposting with my real life.

Interesting stuff here.

This was never meant to be a "right vs left" thread, so let's stop with the political digs.

Slevin was around for years on the GSMB and many years here. Over all those years, I NEVER heard him melt down and freak out or threaten anyone. Honestly, I had no idea what his politics were and frankly didn't care. However, 2020 broke a lot of people. The last thing I ever wanted to do was to drag politics into the sports forum, but that's what happened: social justice issues and COVID politized sports, and we had no choice to but discuss them.

Sports should be here so we can GET AWAY from things like politics. A conservative and liberal can sit next to each other at the Swamp and just both be Gators - screaming and slapping high-fives after touchdowns.

2020 forced us to mix politics and sports, and views were shared that exposed the political views of individuals. This started to cause problems, because both sides see the other as destroying the country they love. Slevin isn't the only one who left this board for political reasons.

So families were torn apart, and message boards were torn apart. That's just the way it is these days. It's so bad I felt that the political forum had to be moved to pay-only.
People need to prioritize sports more and politics less

I would have had a difficult time not escalating the situation had someone followed through on a threat like that back when I actually worked somewhere that had a HR department. On the other hand, that was when I worked for a fed agency whose HR department was such a mess that it would have taken them a decade to try and decide what action to take before they discovered the file and original documents had been shredded.

Only Slev knows if his post was an idle threat or not, but it’s crazy that anyone could be driven to thinking up something like that because of something you read on an Internet forum! To paraphrase you back to you, if your mind works this way, maybe message boards are not for you.

Edit: or to be more precise, maybe message boards aren’t for him.

Slev or Sas would report you to your HR department in a heartbeat and would be comfortable that they did the right thing to a bad person.

The board seemingly became more political when Donnie was elected, it drove the few liberals on here crazy. Covid exacerbated everything

Says the right wing wacko complaining about something.......

Crybaby-ism is not the exclusive domain of any side despite what each side tells itself.

This post got the reaction bingo, congrats! Haven't seen that too often. Oh, and I didn't have a problem with Slevin.

It does seem like the exposure of people's different political beliefs or ideologies has caused a lot of friction within groups, but I have a slightly different take on it.

Our views on politics and current events are shaped by underlying personality traits that otherwise are not always so apparent. Nowadays, because we talk openly about those topics more than we used to do, people find out more about each other than they knew in the past. Sometimes they don't like what they discover.

In other words, if I have a falling out with someone over their political beliefs, it's not about the beliefs they express, per se. It's more about realizing that they are the type of person who is naturally inclined to believe such things.

In other words, they are stupid!

If they were a real hr Dept they’d tell him thanks and hang up.

I was at Gator Country as a paying member for quite a few years. The PC sh+t got to me, but I let it go for a long time. Then I got an unexpected PayPal refund after calling out a mod for playing favorites over political correctness and political preferences.

I DGAF where you stand, say your peace and get over yourself if others disagree. And go F+uck yourself if you think I need to agree with you...especially on political opinion.
