2022 State of the Board: A new era for UF

There are plenty of G-rated, pleasant, non-offensive message boards out there. Just pick one. To me, football is loud, violent, manly and aggressive. I like that this board is an R-rated place in that vein. If some trash talk and mom jokes offend you, then this certainly isn't the place for you and you might be more comfortable at a dozen other fan sites. Take your pick. Try to make it into something for everyone and all you get is something that no one likes, like the color beige. Just leave it alone.

The thing that keeps any message board from going of the rails is effective moderation by level-headed posters. We've all seen some guys go over-the-top. Just send 'em on a vacation and forget about it.

God forbid we point out the AD spent less than 2 minutes shopping the discount bin while other programs at least tried to make big moves. It remains to be seen which coaches will be successful, but we shouldn’t be forced to pretend to be happy about settling. Hope I am wrong and end up having to eat crow, but I’d put it at about a 90% chance we are in this exact same position 3 years from now.

I personally am for Napier! He just seems like he is moving in the right direction. I was skeptical about the hire but after seeing how he has started off… Im excited to see the staff hires.

Okay, fine… I agree with you. I’m fine with the pumpers and dumpers, but holy crap the amount of broken records (typically a handful of the dumpers) who overreact and exaggerate about what’s wrong is beyond tiresome.

As I've said ,I've come around. Especially after the press conference. Anyhow ,I obviously like the mom jokes and the freedom pretty much post what's on your mind. I don't think ox has ever really been unreasonable. And as Sofia mentioned, what gets posted here spreads throughout the internet and I don't see it to be too beneficial to bash the new coach before he even coaches a game. That being said, it's fair game here and that's why we're here.

Ox, When you went full SwampGas, it just puts the rest of the concept of this being the free board in doubt forever. It is the free board unless you feel it is Christmas Eve and a pony will be there in the morning. Sorry, but it won't. But, you will have cool Ghostbusters gear.

Regardless, the best part of this board, and some of the most negative here, is that they are often right and earlier than the rest of the fans, media, admin, etc.

We can also be hopeful and know we are far better off than 30 days ago, yet still find the lack of effort on grabbing the true Urban Meyer of this coaching class - Lincoln Riley - to be disappointing and another sign that Sticklin is not the guy for the job. Florida football has been at its best with large cult of personality type coaches. Riley is the closest there is in all of college football right now. But, he doesn't match Stricklin's milk-toast personality.

I can simultaneously have that view and recognize that nearly everything Napier has done so far seems to be on the right track.

But, let's not act like nothing is concerning, including his offensive philosophy being so heavily shaped by Butters that he is quoting him word for word to his team. Another example, let's not act like he only said stars don't matter as much as eval or something similarly benign and out of context, because if any of our other coaches we now hate said it in the same context, we would all be killing him. He was asked a recruiting question and came out of the gate with a warning about stars not mattering being the most important thing. If we step away from the honeymoon, we'd see that is a pre-built excuse. To the state of the board question, that is the type of thing we used to be able to notice while also appreciating the budget improvements. Not so much this week.

Ox went full SwampGas more than this board went full negative. This board has been 85-95% positive on Napier and even those who are hesitant aren't fully bashing the guy, but expressing concerns to keep an eye on.

The nuance (and personal insults) set this place apart when allowed to occur.

Okay, I'll bite. And this will be long. This is my opinion, and you know what they say about opinions.

If any of you have spent much time on Twitter you'll probably get this. Especially if you've ever posted something political. Twitter is a cess pool of people who log on just to fight with any and every post they can. It doesn't matter what you say, you're going to get bashed.

Social media in general has created a society of keyboard warriors who find comfort in attacking everyone they can while hiding behind a computer screen. 99% of the things they say online they would never say to your face in public. At least not 15 years ago. Now people who have grown up acting like clowns every day online have brought it to mainstream society and we have a generation of people rioting in the streets over some of the stupidest things in the world. You can't call a man a man or a woman a woman, etc... Down is up and up is down. Its ridiculous.

The bottom line is we've lost plain old decency, civilty and humility and I blame social media for every bit of it. And I've quit almost all social media platforms because I just don't need that crap in my life.

Which brings me to GatorChatter. For me, I don't mind if someone is negative or has a differing opinion than mine. I'm a member at Swamp Gas and have posted there in the past. Their control over the narrative creates a stale, boring environment that wasn't very interesting me.

Ox, you've created a forum here and allowed free thinking and differing opinions that make it definitely more interesting than most other Gator forums. Negative or positive opinions don't matter and just adds to its interest.

BUT, you've also allowed it to turn into everything I disliked about Twitter. The constant personal attacks on everything you say is intolerable. I don't need it. It's like there's a competition to see who can say the snarkiest thing or get the best dig in on EVERY post. And then the constant, what I'd call "smut" is embarrassing. I can't imagine how any woman or child could come on here and engage in talk with anyone. The mom jokes, the whack off gifs, and downright porn talk are also what turns me off about Gatorchatter. None of that has anything to do with the Gators, UF, or sports.

Again, these are just my opinions but I don't think I'm alone in them. If you're looking to change anything about GatorChatter I wish you would moderate the "smut" and personal attacks better. I can deal with the negative nellie's and the pumpers all day long.

I know I'm not one of the posters anyone likes to hear from because my takes tend to be negative and not much positive, heck I'm probably blocked by 75% of yall on here, but I appreciate that this board for the most part allowed us to speak our minds. The other site was very quick to ban people for saying anything negative. There is the option to block people so if you don't like the negative posts you can block them.

I hope our board never gets to a point where you get banned for saying the staff sucks or isn't doing their jobs.

On the hire I'm ok with Naiper but I have not been impressed with some of his hires so knowing the amount of money that has been given for staff. I'll wait to make a final evaluation though

Well, I’m not dead. I’m very much alive, but after reading some of the drivel in this thread, I’m considering offing myself from embarrassment…but then I realize that this won’t fix most of you people, and it wouldn’t be fair to those who wake up every morning longing for my next post. I do this for you. You know who you are.

This place is an important part of my life. My wife calls it “the other woman”, and she’s not far off. Like @soflagator posted (btw, he’s likely the most underrated poster here), this place is a way for me to escape from the stresses of life to unwind, learn, blow off steam, and to generally have unfiltered exchanges with people I agree with, disagree with, and everything in between.

And there it is. That’s the key. The magic of a place like this is exactly BECAUSE it is filled with very different people with very different life experiences, backgrounds, perspectives, and opinions. But that’s where it gets tough, because people you don’t agree with can get on your nerves, especially if they are caustic, or crude, or abusive. For those who this strikes a chord for you, here is my advice…

LIGHTEN THE FUCHS UP!! Not a single death, maiming, or injury has occurred from a post on this site. Not a single one….0 for 1.3M. Those are good odds. If somehow someone hurts your precious feelings, then IGNORE THEM. It’s incredibly easy - it’s like 2 clicks. But before you do that, consider this - some of the smartest, most insightful, knowledgeable, and funniest people here are also some of the most rude, crude, caustic, and socially unacceptable. If you can put your ego aside for just a moment and realize that in the majority of cases you are treated poorly because YOU ARE LIKED and included in “the tribe”, then you might actually have the chance to enjoy yourself. And guess what? Despite the immature claims, not a SINGLE member here has had sex with another poster’s dead mother. Not once. Even MattM.

Swonkey is a dick. He prides himself on being so. He is abusive, combative, and likely tests to see what your opinion is and immediately takes the other side and calls you a moron for doing so. Think about how ridiculous that is, and now think about how funny that is. He has pissed every single one of us off at some point in time and that is his charm… his contribution. Do we really want a board full of vanilla? Fuchs no. This place would have 1/2 the posts, 1/2 the threads, and 1/2 the debates if he hadn’t been around.

Napier is a great hire. Napier is a horrible hire. Napier is a so-so hire. One of those is right, and nobody here knows for a fact which of those is ultimately true. Why TF would anyone get upset at anyone saying one or the other?

Listen…this place is important to me, and it’s the immaturity combined with some incredibly smart and insightful people that (and it pains me to say this) I feel like are real friends, that is what makes it important.

I found Gatorchatter because I was looking for real info about the program, not the ass-kissed version elsewhere.

I enjoyed it here enough to pay for a lifetime membership. I like the light-hearted back and forth we have here and by that I mean the light ribbing we give each other. It's naturally stayed pretty light. I'm a mod on another board and I've seen it go way south over there at times so I like that it doesn't seem to cross the line here.

I'm undecided on Napier because he's unproven at our level. But, he is saying and doing mostly the right things. Bringing these guys over from his UL staff has me a bit nervous, I'd feel better if he were hiring others who have P5 experience. Let's hope it's not all hype.
