We have quite a large family and some are not on the Facebook (me) so we are looking for an app that is cross platform and will permit messages to be sent to a list of over 20+ people. (Some cellular companies limit it to 20)

Since Facebook isn't an option, do any of you have any recommendations for an app that will allow you group text 25-50 people?

Thanks in advance.

If you won't do facebook then your options may be limited, because all the major companies that do it are going to be companies you probably dislike

Unless I read opinions that expose flaws, I'm thinking strongly of going with Signal.

How about WhatsApp?

"Keep in touch with the groups of people that matter the most, like your family or coworkers. With group chats, you can share messages, photos, and videos with up to 256 people at once. You can also name your group, mute or customize notifications, and more."

Signal, Telegram, and WhatsApp all allow more than 200 (some way more) people in a group.

Signal is the most secure (by far) but is kind of clunky. All three also have desktop apps (once you have it on your phone) that allow you to message from your computer if you want. WhatsApp is the easiest to use if ease of use is what you are looking for, but if you are "anti-Facebook", WhatsApp is owned by them. Telegram is probably the most dynamic in terms of features.

We also have a large family group of 50+ and the texting aspect is annoying because of the limitations and someone always grabs the wrong group (wives vs siblings vs guys etc)

The easiest way to arrange parties and get together with a trail is a private family FB page. You can create events with RSVP and announcements. Then they see them on their own time and do not respond at midnight on a Sunday to a text.
