Looks like the final round at Augusta is shaping up to be closer than it looked it would be. Scheffler scrambled his way to a -1 while Cam “Alabama” Smith went -4 to close within three strokes. You’d have to think it’ll be between those two, but there’ll likely be somebody that makes a charge. Sunjae Im was -1 on the day and is five strokes back, so it’s easy to think he could make a run. The forecast is for a cool start, warming up to the low 70’s by the afternoon. The wind shouldn’t be much of a factor like it was Saturday. But it’s Sunday at the Masters and the top three are young and you know there’s a bit of tightening among the sphincters. Should be fun to watch.

@itsgr82bag8r Tiger did well to make it two rounds close to par. I’d have to imagine that pushing himself for two days took a toll on him physically and his mind, which is arguably his greatest strength, struggled to focus on putting and swing mechanics while dealing with the fatigue and pain he had to have been feeling. It was a valiant effort, but sooner or later Father Time has a way of catching up to all of us, whether strictly chronologically or with the aid of physical issues.

I get why the coverage of the tournament seemed like a Tiger love fest. He’s the best player of the modern era by a large margin and arguably the best ever, though I believe Jack has made a good case for this distinction. It was a huge feel good story and only increased the interest beyond its usual large audience. It was huge enough that Scheffler almost seemed to sneak up on three really good rounds, along with Smith and Im. Those guys will get their well-deserved appreciation (and scrutiny) today along with a few others. Tiger will finish, a great accomplishment given the circumstances, and the legion of fans looking for him to reclaim his throne will be left pining for next year, or maybe the next major.

While it seems we’d never agree when it comes to the GOAT discussion, I get the marketing biz. The money to be made with him as a story causes every last drop of potential “return to glory” to be wrung out of it. However, purists will argue that enough is enough. He’s well past his prime and IMO, short of potential Champions Tour wins, will never see another major win.

I don’t disagree with you one bit. I’m not crazy about the whole marketing of Tiger’s return, especially at Augusta National, but given the fact that he’s responsible for golf’s increased popularity, especially for the “Everyman” and probably to the chagrin of the purists and definitely the elites, you had to see it coming when he declared his intention to play.

We’ve done that now. It’s time to spotlight the young Turks on the way up and the established guys trying to maintain. Tiger’s regrets are not on the golf course. He’s done what other really good golfers have only dreamed of. If he’s got something to kick himself about, it would be how clumsily he’s handled his personal life. But it just shows that he’s more human than many want to believe. The 2022 Masters would agree.

The funny thing is nobody is talking about Brooks Koepka or Jordan Spieth or Bryson DeCambeau or Xander Shauffle or Gary Woodland or a host of other top golfers going “poof” after they didn’t make the cut. Nobody is saying that John Rahm or Patrick Cantlay is washed up because they are doing just as “poorly” as old man Woods out there in his first tournament back from almost losing his leg. 22 straight made cuts is pretty impressive.

Hmm, I wonder if it’s because none of those people have come anywhere close to the consistency of game or outright dominated the field for the length of time Woods has. It’s almost like Woods has done something those guys haven’t…..

Zambo, I think there’s probably talk about those golfers faltering, but the big story has been Tiger. I would imagine those guys are glad to be in his shadow!

After Joe Dirt dunked it on 12, it was pretty anticlimactic. I enjoyed Rory’s round. A bogey-free 64 was pretty special. Of course it was punctuated by an unreal sandy-birdie on 18 and likely could have been better had 15-17 been better. But Scheffler was pretty steady while defending his lead and it became evident that there was no way he was going to squander it.

Hats off to the youngster. Four wins already this season is pretty special. I’m not a big fan of Brandel Chamblee, but he made a good point about Scheffler moving forward…he hoped that Scottie didn’t start trying to change a lot of things about his game to try and get so much better, to become great. “Great can be the enemy of good.” Pretty profound where golf is concerned and as he’s proven this year, Scheffler is pretty darned good.

Sergio Garcia got irritated at the official time on his hunt for a lost ball out of bounds & said he “can’t wait to leave” the PGA Tour.

Frustrated Garcia: 'I can't wait to leave this tour'

I’d help him realize his dream. Kick him out. The PGA is the only reason anyone on this continent knows who he is, and without the European tour he’s nobody. Norman’s new tour is attempting to skim the cream off the PGA, and it’s not like those stars win that regularly anyway. They can capitalize on their brand in so many ways, but they want more and more. Seems like a lot of ingratitude and greed to me.

I’d ban every one of them from the tour and the majors. Feeling downright oxrageous about this.
