What's the going rate for an 18 year old house sitting for the week?
We usually pay a teenager to come over several times a day to let the dogs out and have never had someone stay before. It's our niece and I think she will enjoy having the house to herself but I have no idea what people pay for house sitters. I want to be fair but would hire a professional if I expected a whole lot.

Tremendous insight Tom. Thank you

CD. How old is said niece. I ask because of what they may expect from it may differ from one age to another. You can use food in the house as a bargaining chip too. Since she'll be staying there, you'd probably want to do a daily rate instead of hourly rate. What that number is, I'm not entirely sure, never had anyone house sit for us.

She’s 18 and doesn’t have a job.

You might want to ask her to name a price, see what she throws at you.
But depending on what she is doing there each day, I would guess $50 a day would be reasonable? Total shot in the dark, I have no idea what would be customary.

My brother in SC says he pays $70 for high maintenance animals but a teenager would be more like $50.

I did ask her but it’s an awkward conversation and she didn’t reply.

Ahh, she's a little savvy then
You'll have to decide for yourself what sounds reasonable for you. But after doing quick research, it does sound like $50 a day is in the ballpark, unless of course your animals are something more than taking care of house pets.

We paid the neighbor kids last year and it was a disaster. We essentially got what we paid for. I was cleaning the floor for a week.

I'd say family will typically take better care of your place, but it will always depend on the person of course.

My wife says $50 a day would be sufficient and we’ve actually had someone do just this.

I’d say NV is about right. Average long weekend for us is typically about $200. Also depends on the dogs in question. Our dog is simple. My mother’s dogs are little yappers who need bathroom breaks like every 4-5 hours and have to be locked up in a pen because they’re awful. So I’ve had family do ours for free even. So given her age, the chance to get some freedom for the week and assuming it’s not a ton of dogs or high maintenance ones, I think 2-300 is probably in the range.

Is the job still open? Looking for a place to send Mrs. Nalt and the boys for their 2022 vacation. Just stock the pantry and fridge and they'll do it for a place to stay... ;)

Niece replied back with $20/ day.
We will pay her more than that but I better not be scrubbing the tile floor again how the neighbor kids left things.
