That looks like a Northern Flicker but not sure you have them. The one on the left, that is.

I’ve never seen a northern flicker. This is a red headed woodpecker. Very common around here.

Part of the Woodpecker family. A little bigger, larger than a Robin.

Nah - This is the Red-headed Woodpecker -

Yours is probably (remember I'm the tree guy, not the bird guy) the very poorly named Red-bellied Woodpecker. It is similar to a number of other birds known as Flickers.

There is a pretty good Bird ID app called Merlin from Cornell Labs. Among other things you can get an ID from pictures and/or the call. A lot of these apps aren't perfect - I use some tree id and plant id ones sometimes and they can be close or correct, and other times way off, depending on the quality of the picture.

That looks right. I'll defer to you and the internet.
We have the larger pileated woodpeckers too but not as common. (there's a joke in there somewhere @URGatorBait )

Tomato plants coming on. Looking forward to having the little salad tomatoes pretty soon. We’ve gotten some rain this last week that has really pushed them.

It’s time to cover up the blueberries with netting to keep the birds out.

I walked down to the garden and found these TWO snakes curled up by a tree.

Gorgeous morning in the Bluegrass! Cooler temps and lower humidity for the minute. Heats back up next week.

Scenes from around the farm this morning.

Not really garden, but from it. I cut my wife a rose each week on Sunday, usually one of the “drifts” for the smell. But found this one today and it’s nearly the perfect rose.

We don't have a huge garden and Colorado has a short season, but the peppers are coming great this year. Pablanos, anaheim, hatch (Big Jim and 6-4L), cubanelle, snack peppers and some jalapenos (too small, but good).

Nice! I was looking forward to some good jalapeño poppers this year but ours were pathetic.

We stuffed some of the pablanos with chicken, cheddar, cream cheese and chives. Baked and enjoyed. They are great. Not too hot, but some spice, slight smokey flavor.
