Why would USF burn their last timeout on 3rd & 20 from our 34 yard line with 38 seconds left, down by 3 points & within field goal range?

The answer is they wouldn’t. They’d line up and run a 3rd down play with ample time to do so and try to get more yardage for a closer FG. Then, on 4th down (assuming they didn’t get enough yardage for the 1st down), they’d use that last timeout to get their FG unit lined up and they’d attempt a FG.

All correct. But you’re giving them a breather after a disastrous, possible game-deciding mistake, and more time to devise their strategy on the biggest 3rd down of the game. I understand your point about conserving clock, but we also gave them a chance to dial something up with time as opposed to having to rush or at least call a play within the normal time clock. I’m not saying there isn’t any argument for what was done, just as there was two weeks ago. But I wouldn’t call it prudent. It just worked.

The initial question(s) I replied to all presupposed that had we not taken a timeout we would have forced USF to burn a TO at that moment. That presupposition is wrong and goes against every coherent football strategy in the history of the game. Your newly stated reasons above are a totally different outlook that people could debate back & forth for hours without coming up with a definitive right/wrong answer.

We can say with certainty, though, that USF calling TO prior to the 3rd down snap with 38 seconds on the play clock after the conclusion of 2nd down and the clock running would have been a strategic blunder of epic proportions (short of some crazy quirk line the entire team falling down in a big pile with the play clock running down close to 0:00 happening).

Gotcha. It seemed like you were disagreeing with my for saying that it was a bad/questionable decision for us to call a TO. I didn’t catch the other stuff.

When I say make them use their last timeout, I mean that their team should be the one who is trying to stop the clock in that situation not the Gators. It was 3rd and 20 their team wasn’t going to rush up to the line in that situation.

Now that NFL scouts have seen the real AR, I wonder if he will go back to the game plan and take what the defense gives you rather than try to "prove" youre an NFL level qb
Outside of a few, admittedly great, plays, I was not impressed with his overall performance last year.

Glad I went to bed and didn’t watch the 2nd half. I predicted 7-5 on the year but I may have been a bit too optimistic.
The good news for all the AR lovers is he won’t go pro after this season. The bad news is he’ll be back next year.

So now I'm a "dumb-ass hick?"
Maybe you should learn to write. You know what a hyphen is, right? Google it, soldier boy.
And by the way, you are what us "dumb ass hicks" call a "cocklick".
Not that I'm interested.
Now go get some sleep. Your old lady has coffee duty tomorrow morning.
I like it strong.
And eggs over-easy. (and yes, that applies.)

Joke’s on you, she can’t cook worth sh!t.

He may be transferring or switching positions, if he keeps this up.

We went to dinner at some friends last night so we missed the game. (Why Mrs G accepted a dinner invitation the night of a Gator game is a topic for another day.) A recording is a sitting in the DVR, but from reading the comments I don’t know if we really should watch it. Unless of course I want to weigh in on the whole time out debate.

I get it. After the past ten years of watching trash football I went to bed in the 3rd qtr. It just looks like more of the same and why sit thru it.

I don't think we suck .......yet
Just have some things to fix........ARs head being the main thing.
But Chump had Urban talent.

Butters had Chump defenders

Napier has Cousin Eddie talent

Think about that one
Think about the guys who have shined so far this year…. Etienne, James, o’cyrus, Johnson. All of them are Napier’s guys and recruits. This year may be rough and I expect it to be. Just give it and him time. Excited to see where we are at this point next year. Full year of recruiting and players in the system.

Evidently Nape needs to put in his QB as well.

This is my one hope. Of course, it doesn't explain some of the game planning / management issues.

This:

"Richardson said despite the two interceptions, his confidence has increased, and he just has to keep growing as a player and a person."

Delusional....has not thrown a TD pass in 3 games. Can't break 180 yards. Folks this is not going to improve. He is not an SEC QB. Hurts to say. BN needs to make a change. Can't be worse.

Great observation.

Recruit, recruit, recruit.

BN doesn't really own the W-L record this year.

He owns discipline, toughness, play calling and schemes. Also, team building.

And he needs to beat the leghumpers.

Say it again, louder for ppl in the back. Not one of Dan's players is a difference maker.
