Disagree with the OP, but I start from a handicapped position. I grew up with no eye-hand coordination (still don't have any) so soccer was all I could functionally play. I'll always love the sport, and am coaching my kids now.

That said, I saw the news about - US use rainbow logo at Qatar World Cup in support of LGBTQ community and assumed it was the women's team acting up again now that the 'equal pay' thing appears settled. As such, I reached my limit and determined not to watch them again, they've lost my support. But NNNNOOOOoooooo.....this is the "mens" team doing this. Not that their quality of play warranted watching or support (it absolutely hasn't), but they've convinced me not to even watch/support them either.

You play to represent the USA. You wear the red, white, and blue and do your best to prove to the world we're better than everyone else, or we'll at least give our damn best and go down fighting. This, is not representing me, nor my country. This is making a woke statement. That's not what you are paid to do. And while the decision, I'm sure, was not necessarily by the players (hey, don't like it, we can drop you and add someone else), but by those in leadership....but bottom line is this is NOT what I support. Fk 'em.

I absolutely agree with your take here--and the woke nonsense has made it extremely difficult to continue watching, but I love the game and can't help but tune in. Haven't watched a women's match in 5 years, but still watch the men's national team.

That said--the rainbow badge is only at the training facility. The jerseys itself will have the normal red, white, and blue badge on it.

Played soccer my whole life. I love it, but hate the current national team with Gregg Berhalter as coach. Berhalter is Muschamp, BBQ breath, and Mullen of soccer coaches.

The government of Qatar despises Jewish people as well but I don’t see the Star of David on that logo anywhere.

The World Cup is upon us starting in the coming days. It’s a reminder when watching the US team that our worst athletes play soccer . Our best play football , baseball, basketball and even hockey . Soccer is largely a game for the namby pamby sally sues that weren’t tough enough to play football or skilled enough to compete on the hardwood or diamond .

I know our pal Rev has begrudgingly admitted to playing the game and best as I can tell it is his only flaw . I think it starts on Sunday. No way I’d give up watching actual football to watch soccer . Hell I’d rather watch paint dry .
That's hurtful. This is my Sr. year soccer pic. You can't tell me I'm not a great athlete.

Guilty: I love soccer and still play.

For the record, did hs football too and had a few scholarship offers to smaller schools; but ended up taking the UF track scholarship instead and playing on the club soccer team (which is off to nationals this weekend, funny enough). UF won nationals a few years back and has always had a very competitive club team (we beat DI teams pretty regularly even back to when I was playing...and continuing into present). If the Athletic Dept ever wanted to make a men's soccer program, we'd probably be one of the best in the country within short order.

Anyway, cheering for the Red, White, and Blue out of shameless patriotism and just wanting to laugh at other countries along the way. We play Wales, England, and Iran in our group games. It'd be hilarious to beat England (the Brits would lose their chit); and fuch Iran so I hope we score 10 on them.

Totally fuchsing agree. I think we should have gave Klinsmann a longer leash and more time.

Naaah...he lost the locker room on a lot of things. Playing players out of position "just because" in critical games; changing tactics last-minute and trying a new--unpracticed--formation in a WC qualifier vs mexico that backfired badly; always blaming the players for not executing his "vision," etc. Professional athletes want a professional coach and that's all amateur hour stuff.

I'm no fan of Berhalter whatsoever (it was totally dumb to wait a year to make a hire if that's who we're bringing in), but he doesn't do the completely batchit insane stuff Klinsmann routinely did.

Yes I recall your stories of chasing Ciatrick on Friday nights . Probably should’ve just stopped there and left soccer out of it .

Being a football player was somewhat a prerequisite for dating any cheerleader; and being on the soccer team got you "in" with the soccerettes (our hs had a soccer groupie club with more than its fair share of hotties).

Needless to say, my hands were tied.

What if I told you that is how they play everywhere else but here? Thats part of the problem with our game here, its too robotic and methodic. Its a fluid game thats more about the way the players are interacting with each other than the formation they are in. Yes, they have assignments but its much more fluid.

Klinsmann's ego was too big and hated the supposed MLS quota (rumored quota, but it's true). Gregg may not be crazy, but he's incompetent and over thinks the game way too much and wants his freaking strikers to come back and play defense. I guess that is crazy...

I'm well aware my man!
But formations and tactics matter at that level and oftentimes makes a difference.

It bears mentioning that Klinsmann was fired from the German National Team AND Bayern Munich for being lacking in that department & many prominent players at all the teams he's coached said the same thing (Lahm, Muller, among others).

Soccer is a contact sport; much like the NBA in the 80s. Football and hockey are collision sports.

Lol, oh it's a thing and it's real.

Berhalter's tactics just aren't great for this level. It works at club level because you have tons of practice time with your players to implement what you want to do. At the intl level, you've got the squad for a few days before games...if that. And if the system is too dependent on a certain type of player that you may or may not have, that's another problem. Club coaches can go out and buy a player that fits their system. National team coaches cannot. Klinsmann struggled with that too btw...he kept wanting to play possession-based soccer when few of our CBs or CMs had the ability. All other teams needed to do was press us and we'd play like chit.
