Offensive line, running backs. Everything else needs lots of work.

Reading Napier's post game comments are beyond depressing.

This is your final regular season game of the year against your biggest rival and your has regressed from the Utah game and you're celebrating that you beat the spread? WTF.

Not exactly what I'd call strong leadership.
To gain some context I watched the presser posted by Der Kommissar over at www.floridagators.com. During the opening comments Billy is talking to the recruits and their families. He is very precise with his words and very complimentary of the effort given by the players. He is selling his vision.

However his responses to legitimate questions about the third quarter issues were quickly dismissed.

You can tell he is done with this year and wants to move on. Hopefully this doesn't mean he isn't willing to learn. My first mentors told me what I didn't know is more important than what I did know. In other words was I teachable or the tyrant king who had all the answers. We shall see.

This season sucked and the product on the field was nearly unwatchable at times. With that said, it was year 1 and moving from ULL to UF is a big change, so I'm not completely off the train yet. Anyone who's still positive about CBN tends to cite some combination of the following:

- He's a process oriented guy/culture builder
- The upcoming recruiting class is extremely strong
- Mullen left the cupboard bare
- He just needs an OC

So I'm giving him until the Georgia game next year. If he's undefeated going into that game or if he has a loss or two but manages to win it, then he could be a Saban and we should continue the experiment. If neither of those things happens, he's another Mac and we should pull the plug next year and go find a true offensive innovator to lead the team.

To anyone who says the above is impossible: with the transfer portal, a coach who can recruit, has NIL resources, and is at a major program has no excuse for stacking up losing seasons. There's no need for a slow, rebuilding turnaround anymore in CFB. If he makes moves there in the off-season and lands the class he's stacked up commits from, I'll give him a chance this coming fall. If he doesn't, he's not going to be here long.

Final thing: I'm still struck by the degree to which it seems like Billy doesn't get the Florida culture at all. He's so focused on his system that he doesn't really seem to care about what's won us championships and how the fanbase wants to win. This isn't a place for "aw shucks, we played a good game, but they played harder" or being good buddies with the coaches at your rival schools. It's the place for making jokes about UT going to the Citrus bowl and then stomping them a few days later to make the point. He needs to take Spurrierology 101 with the HBC and get his mind right.

Our D had 6 good quarters all season and gave up 45 in its final game. How is that improvement?

Anyone who saw anything encouraging on the field at all this year is
Improvements don’t necessarily show up in the results. There were fewer blown assignments and coverage was tighter even if the results were the same. The D did improve on a technical aspect even if the results weren’t much different. To me watching the D was very different now than from middle season.

So you're saying we found fresh, new ways to lose. Ways that weren't apparent earlier in the season when we weren't as good as we are now? We were able to be introspective as a team, come together, and through hard work, dedication and practice, we discovered an entire new wellspring of failure that we hadn't tapped before. That's what you're saying? yea...pretty much...I agree. And it all starts with our failure of a DC.

Give up 45 points to a bunch of 3 star suckasses who can't beat a single good team in their own suckass conference. Let vandy and Kentucky bend you over, and also let all of our rivals as well as LSU score 40+ and embarrass us. What a great season. Can't wait to see what this cracker jack staff has lined up for the (toilet) bowl game.
It's called the Rid-X septic tank bowl!
Get it right.

That is what losers do. Find ways to lose. Had the face mask gotten called we either go for 2 and throw it out of the end zone or have some idiotic play stopped short with no time left . Zero doubt in my mind .The only culture this man is building is one of losing .

No that is not what I am saying, but you just keep on crying and I'm sure in time you'll feel better

These are all the same exact list of excuses we heard with the past 3 guys. Meyer/Chump/Sharkey/Eddie left the cupboard bare. Chump/Mac just needs an OC. You have to give them time to implement the system.

The problem with this whole "process guy" schtick is that its easy to give Nick Saban time to do his thing because you know his process works. When you hire a jabroni like Napier there is zero evidence to believe his process leads anywhere, its just an article of faith. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't. Right now the evidence is pretty overwhelming it doesn't. For everyone around here that were laughing at LSU, Brian Kelly was an infinitely superior hire by LSU than Napier was but us.

Listen guys, I hate being the pumper because I'm usually not that guy and I have no idea if Billy will work out. But damn near everyone on this board agreed that the first year would be ugly, we wouldn't hold it against him just so long as recruiting was great. Then we lost to Kentucky and everyone threw that shyt out the door. And every loss the GB25s just got louder and louder.

I'm not happy with the season, but I'm not surprised. It should have been expected. But please, continue :ohnoez:
You expected to lose to Vandy? You know, the same team that lost 56-0 today? We have way more talent than a team like Vanderbilt at every position, so if it’s not talent then that leaves coaching to explain the inexplicable loss.

They did a shyt job this year, there’s no arguing that. Does it mean they can’t do a better job next year? No, so there’s some hope. But the reason for so much consternation is because much of our problems during the year were related to terrible in game decisions and clock management. Then there’s below average play calling yet the HC/OC seems to think no one would be an upgrade. And I didn’t even get into the fact that we just did what we thought was impossible, fielded a 3rd down defense worse than Grantham’s.

If there’s no improvement in game management or play calling then upgrading the talent won’t be enough to compete for anything. That’s why it’s hard to feel optimistic about the Napier era up to this point.

Agreed that it definitely hasn't worked yet, but it's also too early to write it off definitively. That's where the second half of my comment comes in: in my book, he gets the first half of next season to prove it. Smart and Saban didn't do anything in year 1 then stacked up wins in year 2, whereas the jabronis tend to end up with a shaky and suspect path to a mediocre bowl game loss in their second season.

We'll know which path Napier is on by the cocktail party next year and he should be fired by the end of next season if it isn't the better one.

No I didn't expect to lose to Vandy, I never expect to lose but understand its always a possibility, especially in a first year. I'm on the fence about Napier, I'm just not throwing him out yet like so many others here. He has to do alot better and I understand that. If next year plays out like this year I will lead the charge for him to hit the road, but that time isn't now. Lets see what he can do in recruiting. Lets see what he can do once the Mullenites have been flushed. Lets see if he has the ability to reflect on his own shortcomings and fix them. So many are CERTAIN that hes already failed I believe in large part because people like to think they are the smartest cat in the room and they knew way before any of the "pumpers" that it wasn't going to work, and some people just like to Bytch no matter what the situation.

I am no pumper and I see the failings like everyone else. However, I do see improvements as much as everyone wants to mock me for it. So be it. I believe getting better playmakers and continuing the culture build will reap dividends soon. I believe our defense will be much improved next year, maybe not shutdown/stellar, but far more competent giving us a better chance to win each game. I would like to say that we will get better QB play next year, but that is such a huge unknown....it is more hope than belief. If we do get a more consistent passer our O will be hard to stop. Special teams are special in a "retard" sort of way. They need to fix that ASAP. His play calling I think will seem improved with a more consistent passer, but hopefully he will step out of the OC role and focus on HC only and at leats get a passing coordinator. His run game is already stellar. He needs a game clock management monkey attached to his side to help him out because he is borderline retarded in that regard.

I get it. I see the failings too. But unless we want to be like Auburn or Tennessee always harming themselves in pursuit of the greener grass, we need to give him a bit of time to see if he can correct these things. Labeling him Sunbelt Billy from day one and freaking out over very little setback does nobody any good.
