Wife and and I watched "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood". Thought it was very good. Tarantino's mind works in strange ways but his stuff is usually very entertaining.

That movie was awesome!
I also found it sad in the end watching Robbie play Tate. She seemed so innocent and watching the alternate ending Tarantino put together as opposed to the reality drove home the title of the movie...like the fairy tale it was. It was a satisfying ending, too bad it couldn't have really happened that way.

Watched Hitman’s Bodyguard on my flight this week. If you are a fan of Ryan Reynolds and Samuel Jackson…. Then this is a must watch. Absolutely hilarious.

Nobody (2021). Amazon. Bob Odenkirk (Better Call Saul) is a former "auditor" i.e. hired killer, who has retired and is leading the boring family life. You can guess the rest. Events transpire that require him to go up against Russian mobsters. It's a bit over the top with Odenkirk taking out gangs of assassins single handedly. Eventually he gets some help from his father (Christopher Lloyd) and his token black handler. It's light hearted but not a laugh riot. Pretty forgettable. Joe Bob says check it out (when it's free).
Yeah, I know I am late to the party, but had to wait for the "free". The plot, the cast, and the soundtrack were all exemplary... I've watched it five times, and each time I pick up some additional subtle nuance.

Or not so subtle....

Bob O: "You brought a lot of guns."

Christopher L: "You brought a lot of Russians."

Perfecto!

Do not go to the movies much anymore. I do like much of the Marvel franchise as I was a HUGE fan of Spiderman and other Stan Lee creations when I was a kid. I guess I replaced it with reading. Well, I read A Man Called Ove recently. Set in Sweden its about an old guy who lost his wife and was struggling. Tried to end it all a few times but "life" kept getting in his way. He finally realized he could live without his beloved Sonya and he needed people as much as they needed him. I highly recomend the book. They renamed it A Man Called Otto and its set in America. Tom Hanks (our modern day Jimmy Stewart) played the part. It is inspiring, funny and makes clear we need people in our lives.

Violent Night (Peacock) - David Harbor stars as a drunk cynical Santa who is tired of what the world has become. He spends Christmas even drunkenly delivering gifts that is now mostly cash or video games. While at a house of a wealthy women (Beverly D'Angelo) her family is taken hostage by a group led by John Leguizamo after money the US government is funneling through her company. All of his henchmen us Christmas names (Scrooge, Krampus, etc) and try to steal the money. Santa must step up after the Reindeer leave him to save the family and the little girl he befriends.

Maybe its my juvenile sense of humor, but I thought this movie was hysterical. It was cheesy in a good way. They understood the puns were there purposely and knew they were being silly, but I still laughed. Gets pretty violent at times and has some funny kills. If this was made in the 80s it would have starred Arnold and his one liners. 7/10.

Last Seen Alive (Netflix) - Typical Gerald Butler movie. Him and his wife are visiting her parents and she disappears from the gas station. He of course takes matters into his own hand to track everyone down and take on the underbelly of the small town. 5/10

Ticket to Paradise (Peacock) - Roberts & Clooney star as a divorced couple who go to try and stop their daughters wedding to the guy she met in Malaysia or somewhere. Basically your typical romcom. They fight, funny stuff happens, do they or don't they. 5/10

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish - Took my son to see this over the break. Puss is down to his last life and is trying get get to a wishing star for more of them. He is being followed by a mysterious figure trying to kill him as well as others trying to beat him there for a wish. Like most it has plenty of humor for adults and kids. Not a bad movie and sets up a possible sequel to another franchise at the end. 6/10.

Black Adam (HBO Max) - The Rock as the superhero similar to Shazam, but bad. Meh. Had some cool fight scenes and the end tease is already screwed up. Just didn't move the needle and the Rock takes himself way to seriously these days. I would say the supporting cast were much better in their roles. 6/10.

Clerks III - Got this as a free rental as well. Stars the main cast from the first two movies and isn't the greatest, but I've been with these movies since the original and had to watch. There are plenty of call backs to other movies, plenty of cameo's, funny advise from Jay and Bob, etc. Premise is that Randall has a heart attack and decides to make a movie on their life with real people playing themselves. Dante helps and their friendship is strained. Wraps up the Clerks story in a somewhat satisfying way and the voice over from Smith in the credits explaining some things was nice. If your a fan of the ViewAskew films you will like this much more than someone who hasn't scene any others. 6/10. Gets you in the feels a little at the end.

Confess Fletch - John Hamm tries to fill Chevy Chase's shoes. I got this one for free so can't say it didn't get my moneys worth. Some guys just can't be replaced in roles. 4/10

Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special
- A little disappointed in this one as its mostly Mantis and Drax. Seems like it was just used to push a few story lines early before number 3. A few of the easter eggs were the best parts, like the GoBot. 5/10

Movies I couldn't make it through because I either found them boring or not my thing. The Pale Blue Eye (Netflix), The Menu (HBO Max) and White Noise (Netflix).

Movies have really sucked lately. However glad Everything, Everywhere cleaned up at the awards. It deserved it.

Black Panther 2 (Disney +) - I let this one marinate a bit before watching. The first BP was over rated, but was still a descent super hero film. This one went off the rails starting with the run time. 3 hours is a long time for something good. It's horrible when the film sucks. Basically if you are white be prepared to learn how aweful you are. If you are from a country not located in African be prepared to learn how horrible you are. It wasn't enough to have one ficticious nation refer to all white people as colonizers or slave owners they also had to completely rewrite the origin story of an almost 90 year old villian to make him preach to you as well. Namor is no longer from Atlantis, but a descendent of Mayans, who you guessed it were victimized by white colonizers. He basically wants to destroy them all with only Wakanda standing in his way, even though some of them think he is right. Not much plot other than that and trying to shoehorn in Ironheart to the MCU. 3/10.

Luther: The Fallen Sun (Netflix) - Idris Elba and Andy Serkis. Never watched the BBC show, but heard it was really good. You don't need to see the show to follow. He is a detective that will do what it takes to catch a serial killer. He gets close to one and is convicted of crimes that the killer was able to expose. The killer then taunts him in prison. He devises a plan to escape to finish his last case. The one is actually pretty good. Slow at times, but very well done. The guy he's after is pretty twisted and sets a good cat and mouse game. 7/10

We Have a Ghost (Netflix) - Anthony Mackie and David Harbor star. A family moves into a house that has a ghost. The kid befriends him and helps him solve his murder so he can cross over. Starts out as a comedy with him becoming a star and ends more dramatic as they solve everything. Had a little gut punch at the end. 6/10

Your Place or Mine (Netflix) - Witherspoon and Kutcher. Has some funny moments, but is a Hallmark movie with cuss words and sex. Ending fell flat. 5/10

Sharper (Apple TV) - Couldn't make it past the first hour. I thought this movie sucked and gave up. N/A

Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile (Netflix) - The kids absolutely love this movie and actually pretty free of crap for the most part. Family moves into home, singing crocodile in the attick, kid befriends him, family gets closer with him helping. Typical kids movie, but worth the watch as a family. 6/10

You People (Netflix) - Eddie Murphy and Jonah Hill. Gave this a shot just because of Eddie Murphy. Hill falls in love with his daughter and I thought would be funny antics about him trying to get rid of the white boy. Instead you get two hours of the movie telling white people that no matter how hard they try everyone of them is a racist deep down. 2/10

Not surprised about BP2.....in fairness, they didn't expect Chadwick Boseman to pass away but I was hoping they could have figured out a way to insert another male lead.....but bigger picture regarding the woke (aka anti white racism) Marvel has gone woke....I googled the new Ant Man to see if there are any woke scenes in that and apparently it's a pretty normal movie based on the reviews

Thanks. I loved the Luther series and will watch the movie soon. I’m happy they produced a new story.

Yes, Wakanda is a forever mess. I’ll add that my wife and I are getting very weary of the incessant girl power push in the MCU and elsewhere. My wife says they are deluding girls into a false presumption that they can beat up men 50-100lbs bigger than they are. The nonsense of a complete reimagining of Namor fell very flat. Dumb. Does DC have a copyright protecting their version or something? And if he’s a global threat, don’t you call in some Avenger help? Really disappointing. 3/10

I’ve loved the MCU but it’s getting too fragmented and preachy. One of my sons noted that their best path forward is character-focused rather than leading with powers/villain/threat. They seem stuck on dazzling effects and mine-bending multiverse implications.

I paid $60 for a year of Paramount + Swamp247. That’s my first paid Gator news since my paper subscription to GatorBait, although I do support Ox with real Theobucks. The Paramount side has been fun. Swamp247 is ok as a throw-in.

We’ve thoroughly enjoyed 1883 and 1923 (still a couple of episodes to go.) We decided to watch those in chronological order before starting Yellowstone. 9/10

I’ve enjoyed season 1 of Tulsa King. Stallone in menacing and funny, still effective at 75. 7/10

Really like season 1 of The Mayor of Kingstown. Interesting storylines, Jeremy Renner is great in it. Starting season 2 this week. 8/10
