I’ve been wearing Hoka’s the past year for running. They seem to be ok, but I’m thinking of giving Altra’s a shot.

Dress shoes are tough because quality changes, even among higher end brands. So while I always go Italian leather, there are plenty of bad shoes that fall into that category, despite the overall lines being solid. Bruno Magli and Ferragamo are great examples of this.
In college I tore the anterior tibial tendon in my right foot (for those interested parties, yes it hurt like hell) and have had foot issues ever since. Playing sports like basketball and tennis were often painful the next day and are now total no-go's. I've also had knee issues in both knees. Needless to say shoes are something for which I have and will continue to over pay. To that end I bought my first pair of Hoka's - for walking, not running - a few months ago and it is not hyperbole to say they have been life changing. Mrs G. is walking the Camino de Santiago next year and just bought her first pair of Hoka's to see if they can be as helpful for her.

I'm fortunate that I don't need real nice dress shoes very often and can still wear my Bostonians - as long as I use my orthopedic inserts.

Bosconian is probably my favorite arcade game of all time... had no idea it had anything to do with shoes!

Brooks sneakers are the best thing my feet have ever been in outside of an incident in the Korean strip joint next to Rick's lounge in Fayetteville in the late 80s.

I am a Johnston and Murphy dress shoe guy.

I've heard about those fish pedicures before.
Did it tickle?

if your feet are sore/hurting, you can feel it through your whole body i swear. Get a pair of On Clouds, worth it.

Tried a pair of Brooks that were really good but not as effective for me as the Hokas. I think everyone’s feet are unique in that regard because so many people swear by them. Similar with On Clouds. Haven’t tried them but they are everywhere. May give them a shot.

I noticed the Hoka’s and meant to ask you. Not sure what I’ve done to my knees and shins(other than just years of sports) but they routinely kept me awake at night in serious pain after a workout/run day. The Hoka’s were night and day compared to others. I do find them a little clunky which is why I was thinking of trying something different. One benefit to having an REI is that communists are apparently big on letting you try things and return them if you don’t like them.

I work from home and never leave....may favorite shoes are simply Smartwool socks.

New neighbors talking…

“Hey, what’s with the lady gardening naked?”

“I don’t know. Heard she has a husband but no one’s ever seen him cause he never leaves the house.”

I can confirm.
Three years ago he came home to flatten the curve for two weeks and has never left. Pretty sure I can donate his dress pants and shoes and he wouldn't notice until the next funeral or wedding.

New Balance are the only sneakers I’ve bought for several years now. Not these…

@soflagator model (Hokas my @ss!)

Workwear are Merrells. Very comfortable for my EEE’s. I avoid dress shoes at all costs these days, but if pressed I still have a pair of Dexter Penny Loafers that I’ve had for a while.

Living in FL I wear flip flops 90% of the time. Usually buy the ones made out of yoga mat material and they last a good bit.

Need a new pair of running shoes. My last two pairs were UA and were good for what I do. What’s the best, reasonably priced running shoe

Brooks and hokas for running.
I fluctuate between NB, Asics and converse for kickin' around basic casual shoes.
I also love Johnston and Murphy for dress shoes
Rainbows for flops and I have two pairs of "floafers" which are essentially crocks material but molded like dress casual shoes and look great for the golf shirt/shorts sophisticated casual look which is all summer long around here.

You could probably get a pair of the ones in @cover2 ’s post for a reasonable price.

I went straight into leather dress shoes, plus @Detroitgator ’s been on my case lately, so I was hesitant to mention anything involving the word “Rainbow”. But yes, to me they’re the best flip flops. Always wore Reefs as a kid(probably because of their famous ads in Surfer magazine which I waited on all month  ) but appreciate Rainbows much more as an adult.
