Not sure how Florida law works but it seems like it should be a felony when people die if your directly involved. Reckless driving and Racing played a part in the deaths.

:dunno:

Reckless driving in Florida is a felony....or atleast used to be.

Can be a felony or misdemeanor depending on the seriousness of the injuries. Which is a bit strange because it feels a whole lot like manslaughter.

Yes in Carters case I don't see how they can get around that.

Can be a felony or misdemeanor depending on circumstances.

Maybe the DA is planning on upping the charges once they take his statement. :dunno:

Pond scum insists that after he has a chance to tell his version of what happened, whichever version that is, he will be exonerated of all charges.

Because kirby/uga followed the f$u blueprint - make sure the law knows who’s boss. kirby had state legislation changed to “protect player privacy” within the first year he was there.

I don't see this stopping him from being drafted in the top-4. Knowing the NFL, it may even enhance his stock.

"What character on this young man, returning to the scene on his own. With both people in the other car dead and unable to tell the police about his presence, he could have gotten away with it scot-free."

I’m interested to see how this will affect his draft stock. The nfl tends to be pretty lenient on how many deaths you’re directly involved with if you can rush the passer
I’m reminded of Leonard Little, who did 90 days and was suspended 4 games for. DUI manslaughter. That was 1998 - 25 years ago - but after the draft I think.

The issue for me wouldn’t be so much what he did - we all make mistakes - but the risk of future trouble. That’s hard to evaluate. But if you’re willing to take that risk you take it early.

Maybe they should just go ahead and assign him to Cleveland as penance.

He would have gotten away scot-free anyway but for the cameras. It’s not like he told them everything.

Yeah, I figured there were either other witnesses or cameras, and he knew it. Otherwise, there's no chance he would have returned.

Ox, that's hilarious. What isn't hilarious is you're probably mostly right about Carter's draft status. This guy is a potential game-changing talent who's coveted by a number of teams, including my hometown Bears. The NFL talks a good game about character but doesn't do much about it.

Carter ripped a page from the Lance Briggs playbook when he left the scene very likely under the influence. Briggs crashed his black Lambo on the Eden's Expressway at 3 a.m. and left the scene in 2007. He got nothing from the Bears or the NFL and a measly $400 fine from local authorities. The guy wrecks his car drunk and walks away with no dings.

Just a couple years ago, Briggs was at it again, crashing a Porsche 911 Turbo into a -- wait for it -- bartending school. Dude is amazing and still jail free.

I can't believe that Briggs still had enough money to buy a Porsche a couple of years ago.

As for Carter, if he left because he was drunk, I'm surprised he came back after an hour. He should have waited several hours.

If you look closely at the rear end of the 911 Turbo can see it's a 2009 or 2010. In other words, it was fairly depreciated by 2016. Still a very nice car but not as expensive as the 200k rigs coming off the line now.

I have not read the thread updates. My opinion:

He may be charged for related crimes but if the crashed car was speeding, not a bystander, then it's going to be extremely difficult to convict for anything more than leaving the scene, presenting false statements, and reckless driving. That is a significant combination. If by reckless driving he caused another car to crash- a slower moving vehicle that was not otherwise endangering itself, some degree of murder would seem likely.

So intent is the (no pun) driver of culpability? Interesting. You sound like you know the legal system.
