These kids always talk about how important academics are. Yet, in 20 years of following recruiting I can count on one hand the players who were serious. This kid looks to be one of them. Impressive kid. Usually, when a kid is that focused he is a good teammate as well. My props to his parents. Great addition to gator nation.

So glad we stopped payment on the check for that Tears for Fears/Schwinn bicycle ad loser from Cali. Hopefully this kid can reclassify and make it in for fall camp. If reports are accurate that Napier was the catalyst for that, and these kids turn out well, it may end up being his best overall move to date.

In his sophomore season at Pahokee High School, Simmons posted an impressive 3,253 yards, completing 163 of his 242 passing attempts and adding 27 touchdowns. That equals to 67% completion percentage, which is an outstanding mark, especially for someone in their sophomore season.

So, if Simmons does wrap up high school sooner than expected, he would likely graduate as a 2023 prospect. That means he would relocate to Gainesville sometime this year and be on the roster for the upcoming season.

“It’s a possibility, but I don’t know yet,” Simmons said. “I’m still talking to my family about it. I’m not really too sure about it and we are still talking about the pros and cons, but it’s a possibility.”

Would that affect the Lagway commitment at all?
No. Lagway is a year after. Or a year before. Not the same year. So in other words, he will join in his own class or he reclassifies two years early.

He is the same age as Lagway though.

It would be nice to have the luxury of redshirting QBs again. If we keep bringing in at least one top QB in every class like we've been doing, that will become a reality sooner than later.

Love what Billy has cooking for ‘24 & ‘25

I’m getting excited for the future while being not so excited for this upcoming season. Guess I’ll take it :dunno:

This upcoming season is not going to be very good. But I still think we can eke out nine wins.

We’re better everywhere except QB. And while AR was incredibly talented and athletic, it’s the routine plays where he struggled. And I think Napier’s offense is built off of scheduled downs. And they were constantly off schedule with AR. For every spectacular player he made, he had two or three simple plays missed.

Some of it had to do with his experience. But some of it also had to do with the weak WR room. I think against FSU we were missing our top four or five wide receivers. We have some quality depth and top end (albeit young) talent there now.

For those who want to see some film from his sophomore year:

The kid can drop dimes and also throw it on a rope. We got a good one.

I actually think BN is being pretty smart about the QB situation in '23, unless it's just horrible. The expectations are lower so if they are good or serviceably good, then they will be at the top end of what we expected. If they are bad or less than what we expected, BN will take some heat but expectations were low anyway. Either way I think it's building everything else to get to '24 and beyond when better athletes get here. There's no way to go around this "process", gotta go through it.
Hey, and if Mertz or Miller overperform and transform us, they get tons of credit and raise their stock.

Thanks for sharing. Side note, just listening to that film made me miss HS football games. It’s amazing how HS, college and NFL all sound completely unique from one another.
