Work provided Sonny's last week, which of course was fantastic. But they didn't include the Sonny's bbq beans or coleslaw. Does it even count without those?

PS - @cover2 thanks for filling in. I've been busy in the yard and garden now that the weather has warmed up.
I've never had Sonny's so I have to ask... How does Sonny's and Lawler's compare? I ask because I remember you posting a few years ago that y'all had stopped at Lawler's once while driving north through Alabama...

I remember the place but not the food really. I don’t recall it being the best ever but not bad.
Sonny’s is very consistent from Gainesville to London, KY. You know what you will get every place you go. It’s kind of a “BIG DEAL.” (If you know, you know)

Had one for years that I got at the Oaks in Panacea. Captain’s wafers and garlic butter were quite a treat.

The Sonny’s in St Augustine used to have nickel beer Wednesdays. Something like 23 cent pitchers. When I was there to see friends we’d sometimes go there and eat nothing but Captain’s Wafers and BBQ sauce that were already on the table. Still in HS, so no money, served for reasons unknown, and could get hammered on Mich Light and crackers for like $2 per person.

I am and my family are from Texas originally. Brisket is tops for me. Tangy red sauce is my favorite, especially if it has some heat to it.

Boston butt is a very close second. Same sauce. Ribs then chicken after that (grew up in Florida - parents drove Cookin Good frozen chicken from DeFuniak to all points south - so we had more chicken than anything else growing up).

My in laws had the high school FFA kids smoke two butts for our wedding reception in Nebraska. The crazy looking one in the wedding photo grew up on a pig farm, so the meat was cheap.

Sides - fried okra, potato salad with excessive mustard and barbeque sauce, and garlic Texas toast. Occasionally corn on the cob.

Can eat my weight in good pulled pork. Brisket and Ribs are always a take as well. For sides any type of potato, baked beans, mac and a sweet cornbread.

BBQ is one of those foods that I have become snobbier with as I have gotten older, like pizza, where I find a favorite place and try not to stray to much. Will do Sonny's or Mission in a pinch. Here in Jax I prefer Woodpeckers with Bearded Pig coming in second. When I lived in Atlanta areas Dreamland was really good, but the last time I went to one it was horrible. The best BBQ I still remember is from a guy with a pull behind trailer in the town I grew up in.

I was born in Texas but don’t remember anything about it.
On Texas toast is my favorite way to eat bbq.
You get bonus points for the fried okra.

Woodpecker’s meats are fantastic but their sides are terrible. I live about a mile from there and we just buy their tri tip, smoked turkey or sausage but make our own sides.

I celebrated yesterday with some baby backs. Was in Gainesville for a drs appt and compromised with the missus on Texas Roadhouse. They always have pretty good ribs and didn’t disappoint. One thing that I thought of that I will get from time to time are burnt ends when just a sandwich is all I want. There’s a 4 Rivers in Tallahassee that does pretty good on the ends. Most of the mom and pop joints that will have them, they usually go pretty fast and you have to know when they’re going to have them.

I agree their options suck, but the mac is pretty good if it isn't sold out. The also have some good deserts sometimes as well. I usually don't do any sides anymore unless its part of the meal and just buy a pound of something for a sandwich.

(but not really)

So, if I had to guess where the "McRib" meat comes from...I dunno, maybe lips, ears, ass holes, snouts, that sorta thing.

Black’s Barbecue in New Braunfels TX is awesome. Son is stationed near San Antonio. Some of the best BBQ I’ve had.

Pulled pork and chicken are my favorites
Cole slaw is always welcome but not a big potato salad guy myself.

I like sweet and tangy sauce
