Why? I see this everywhere and he has not been on our radar as long or on the camp/Elite 11 circuit to build him up. But, he is already nearly the size of our current roster QBs, he has as much or more HS experience than Max Browne, and from film it seems he has a bigger and more accurate arm than any of them. What I like best from his HS film for early playing time, is he makes decisions on time in the offense. Watch just the first few plays on his film. I may be overhyping him, but his HS film is better than Lagway's and their stats are very similar with each having some better results. Lagway is a better runner, but Simmons can run. Both do fairly well anticipating WRs getting open, rather than waiting ala Emory Jones.

Watch these two highlight films from last year for comparison on timing and decisiveness. Most of Simmons's tape shows drop, set, assess, throw or get out of the pocket quickly and in rhythm. He even throws a number of passes with pressure in his face. Compare Simmons' first 7-8 passes to even just Lagway's first 3. Lagway lingers in the pocket, is slower to decide, pats the ball, shuffles around, etc. Lagway has tremendous skills, obviously. Probably a bigger arm. But, he is not nearly as tuned in on how to play the position within his offense. It seems obvious to me. Lagway is the one who will need more acclimation time. If you disagree, watch the film and let me know where you think I'm misreading what I'm seeing.

Going off of these two videos, I like Simmons the best.

A freakin 16 year old isn't gonna come in and start in the SEC. I don't see his potential reclassification helping our immediate needs at all.

I don’t get it. He’s not going to play.
Because Lagway is going to need a couple of years to fix his accuracy issues before he's ready to take over the team. Getting Simmons in here now gives him a year to learn the system and be ready to go the next season hopefully.

So, he's not a starter. But I do recall freshmen QBs named Tim and Danny getting significant downs that contributed to wins. I'm not counting him out. It can't hurt.

Simmons has been taking college classes. He’s also a year behind in school for some reason. So he’s actually the same age as Lagway.

What’s all this talk tho? I was assured he would never reclass, when I brought it up around a month ago

He’s old for his athletic class, hence why he could have the credits to reclassify. I forget who, but someone here posted he’ll be 18 at some point in the fall.

Leak started 9 games in 2003 and played in them all. He was 6-3 as a starter under Ron Zook, including a win over eventual national champ Lsu in Baton Rouge.

Freshmen QBs shouldn’t be playing in the SEC. But if that’s the best option, it can be done.

These Simmons posts should likely be moved to a Simmons reclass thread, but I think the biggest Lagway risk is not us having a bad season next year. The biggest risk is Simmons coming in and showing Lagway that he can't start until he is a redshirt junior.

Yeah, sorry everyone. The article addresses both Simmons’ reclass efforts and that “Billy is done with the portal,” so my brain somehow latched onto “portal.”

Never diagnosed, but there’s gotta be some ADD going on in there somewhere…

No apology needed. It’s either Simmons at this point or granting a scholarship to a promising PWO. I’m hoping for Simmons and adding Lagway in January to have great competition.

I don’t think it’s about immediate needs. I think it’s about bridging between quarterbacks.

Losing both QBs last cycle and coming up empty handed f’ed up the rotation.

Simmons reclassification allows him to take Rashada’s spot and redshirt. And maybe compete next year in the summer. He and Brown can compete for starting in 2024 and it allows DJ to play sparingly as well.

Also is it me or is this kid somehow getting younger with every mention? By the time he does eventually get on campus, @t-gator is gonna have him at 12.
