Looks like they are meeting with Will and his daddy today to go over his "future" with the team. Not sure what comes from this as I think the coaches need a confirmation from Eason before they go one way or the other. We know that Trask will be redshirting in the role of starting clipboard holder when Guy graduates even though he has some competition from a few guys that will also most likely never see the field. Franks will also probably redshirt as well regardless. I see it playing out in two ways with way number 1 being the most likely because although we currently make sense for Eason, not sure it's enough to sway him after all this time committed to UGA.

Way 1 - Starting battle between Del Rio and if they find a graduate transfer for starting role. The loser if we find a transfer is the backup or we are stuck with harris as backup again until Grier returns. Harris is emergency role only and told to switch positions or transfer. Franks and Trask redshirt, guy contniues to look like a NFL starter holding the clipboard, and Grier could return and attempt to earn the job back mid-season, only if the other guys are bad and have lost games because of them and not something else. Still think they may just tell him to walk if confident in Franks and Allen (2017) and we just have to use Del Rio for a year.

Way 2 - Starting battle between Del Rio and Eason with the looser being the backup. Harris emergency number 3 and as above told to change positions or leave. Franks and Trask redshirt. Grier is told he will probably never see the field again if Eason, Franks, and 2017 Allen are the real deal so he may want to transfer.

I think the big key right now if they have to figure out how to work Grier into practicing with the team in a way that he can be prepared to play next year without hampering the growth of the other QBs on the team. Even if we get Eason it is very possible that Grier is the best option after 6 games next year. Eason will be a true freshman and while he is an EE that doesn't mean he will be as prepared to come out and play as Grier is.

The other thing is that we don't know if any of them will be as good as Grier was. Grier wasn't super amazing, but he was showing flashes. The most impressive thing I saw from Grier that I rarely notice from any college QBs was that he actually threw the ball on time. He threw the ball as the receiver was going into their cut which allowed him to make throws that a lot of other QBs don't make. I really hope he comes back and has a great 2nd half of the year. The kid made a stupid mistake, but the punishment was too harsh and I want to see him succeed.

If Mac advises him to leave or he leaves on his own I'll be pretty pissed off.

If Mac advises him to leave with our QB situation being what it is that tells me that there had to be other off field issues he had with Grier other than the supplement thing. Otherwise Mac wouldn't want to make what looks to be a mediocre year next year even worse. If Grier makes the decision to leave on his own he's a fool.

IMO, knowing Grier's Dad's interference, this meeting will be Mac addressing Grier like
he is recruiting him, with assurances that he has a clear shot at being our starter next
year. Just assure Grier & Dad that the NCA punishment has no bearing in holding his
career goals back. ? Of course, I believe Grier can outperform any of our other QB
candidates. With the McNuss Offensive schemes and the WRs and TEs of 2016,
Grier should excel enough to stand out nationally, even in just a half season + bowl
game.

No way is Mac wasting practice reps on Grier until he's eligible. He might get as many as the clipboard carrier does. They're only allotted so much time per week and no matter who the starting QB, they're gonna all the reps they can get. That's why I don't see him coming right back and jumping into the starter's role. Folks, need not expect much from Grier until 2017...if ever IMO.

Only chance Grier will get good reps during his suspension is if he and the other players do some player ran practices. Other than that, he will be way behind by the time that 7th game arrives.

If we are undefeated or only one loss, I think it will be difficult to switch if our offense is competent which it will have to be with the defense most likely taking a step back year. I agree with MJM on this, unless the quarterback in place starting next season isn't completely $hitting the bed it's going difficult just to make the change in the 7th game of the season.

Yeah, the only way I see them inserting Grier mid/late season is out of desperation. He's simply gonna be too far behind on everything and his timing will likely be terrible due to lack of reps.

The problem is gonna be that the other QBs will be wanting to do that, as well. It's pretty common during the summer. Will he even be in Gainesville this summer or will he spend it in NC? Who gets the reps with the WRs on their own time?

Maybe he isn't going to class and his dad has ran his mouth? If that's the case then a sit down talk is needed. If Del Rio can handle the offense while Franks develops I'm fine with Grier moving on if my first sentence is true. To push him out for any other reason (to maybe get another potential recruit, etc) would be dumb.

Could it be that Mac is actually quite comfortable with Del Rio?

Grier will have a chip on his shoulder-pads, something to make amends for.
Grier has the quickest release of all the Qbs I saw on TV. The flight of his
passes seem jet-propelled in comparison. IMHO, Grier could be another
Aaron Rogers type QB.

I don't see him pushing him out, but I also don't see him making any promises about his future as a starter.

I agree that it will be difficult to get the reps no matter what. I was just pointing out the only way he will get any reps. No way the coaches will give him the reps during their time, so he will have to take it in his own hands to get reps.

Grier is told he will probably never see the field again if Eason, Franks, and 2017 Allen are the real deal so he may want to transfer.

Even if Eason, Franks, and Allen all end up being better QB's than Grier someday, they will not be better options than Grier during the 2016 and 2017 seasons because of their inexperience.

I agree with Divits that the only way Mac suggests that Grier transfers is if Grier is involved in other off the field issues. No way Mac tells him to transfer cause there are better players on the team.

Even if that is true, why would Mac want Grier to leave? This year is a great example as to why strong QB depth is so important.

I don't want Grier to leave, and I don't think Mac does either. But as many have said, if Mac is comfortable with Del Rio or another QB giving Grier prep time will be difficult.

I think he could get reps during bowl practice and during spring practice. Will he be getting full reps... absolutely not, but he can get some reps. If I was Mac I would also be increasing his reps as it got closer to Week 7. Depending on the play of whoever is starting those first 6 games... Grier may be needed. If they start working him in with 3rd string reps week 4 and increase his reps a bit week 5 and 6... then he could be good to go.

A lot of how they are going to work him in depends on how good or bad the QB play is up to that point. We all know that Treon is not the answer, so the question is if Del Rio or possibly Eason (if he commits) can come in and do the job. I have no idea about how good Del Rio is, but he never really worked himself into a start position anywhere he was. Eason will be a 5*, but also a true freshman which means he has to adjust to the speed of the game. I find it hard to believe that Grier won't be the best option come week 7 against Mizziou... then we have a bye week to get him ready for UGA.
