Was Mac smart?

When I say this is on Mac, I am not being disrespectful or even argumentative. You know I am right. Mac deliberately decided to use the bowl practices to develop the returning players and he said that explicitly in his presser. I support the fact that he was building a program, not winning a game. But I wonder if he miscalculated. Against fsu and Bama the defense held strong into the 2nd half when it was obvious the offense could do nothing. This game, knowing Mac was using it merely to develop players, the defense made absolutely no effort to play. The offense got better than 200 yards in first half. The defense never played. This will have ramifications for recruiting, support, backing for him as head coach, etc. In year three will we be better or worse for Mac's decision?

When we kick Michigan's ass in the 2017 opener at Jerry World, all will be forgiven, whatever needs to be. The D quit today, they finally said "**** it" with the Treon garbage on offense.

I'm afraid they said **** it a few games ago.

Forgiven? Absolutely. But will Mac's decision help secure that win or imperil it?

I don't think giving the seniors 3 extra days of practice would have changed the outcome of the game. They know the plays - they don't really need the practice - they do need to heal.

Secure it. Mac will have two full recruiting classes in by that game in 2017. The man just did a 10 win miracle with a dumpster fire he inherited. Let him work and build the program back up.

Oh, it is not the practices, not at all. The decision sent a message that the team clearly received.

Offense played as offensively as usual. ST was a disaster as it has been all year. The defense - give MSU some credit. They had a month to prepare and exploited some weaknesses. I don't think VHIII got burned for two TDs because of any message he got.

Maybe a new coaches first year is a throw away year. Maybe Mac exceeded most peoples expectations. Maybe he's reinvigorated a dying fan base.

But for the life of me I've never seen a coach give up on winning games. After he won the east it was as though he said "mission accomplished" and decided nothing else really mattered this year.

The offense moved the ball in the first half. The offense quit in the second half, the defense never started. No, the defense was never this bad in any game this season. Not even close.

You realize Harbaugh will also have 2 full recruiting cycles as well?

Harbaugh>Mac

Lets be honest. No one will like the above but Harbaugh just beat the tar out of a way more talented UF team.

UM has a quality OLine. When you have an accurate passer, strong runner, and a good OLine, today can happen. Especially when a defense plays like we did. I don't think the D gave up. I think they played undisciplined because they were trying to make plays every play. Both of VH3 burns seemed to be miscommunication with the safeties. I trust him more than Maye or Neal.

I think today's errors were on VH3.

Just have to face the fact that we don't have a good team on the offensive side of the ball. Oline is full of first year starters - freshman at that. And we don't know if they're going to be any good - time will tell. Treon is a disaster and you have to face the facts that the backups - a 4 year player cut by Vandy and a walk-on scout team QB were worse. ST were horrible all season and I hope for a coaching change there.
Defense played great for 13 games. I'm not ready to dump Collins for one game but he's now under suspicion.

Regarding Treon and playing to his strengths. What strengths? Treon has shown to be tiny and given that there was nobody behind him I don't think running him would have been a good idea. Also he has shown a pretty low QB instinct and I honestly don't think he could effectively execute the read option. (did we even try?) There was no way to design an offense that Treon could effectively run anymore than they could design an offense that I could run.

As for Mac "giving up" on the rest of the season that's fairly myopic given all our other issues.
