After Day One Elisabeth Beisel makes her third straight Olympic team by finishing second in the 400 IM.
Ryan Lochte falls short, finishing fourth in the 400 IM. He has several other swims still to go and should qualify for multiple events unless he completely bombs for some reason.

And Steele Johnson makes the men's 10m platform diving team. Good thing because his backup job as a porn star wasn't going too well.

Thanks for the update Tag. I typically only pay attention to the swimming sing sky kids are competitive swimmers. There are actually two active swimmers from our team at the trials and several "alumni". It's pretty cool.

He injured his groin & couldn't use his legs. He damn near qualified using only his upper body. Cortizone is your friend....

Yeah we're actually following Caeleb Dressel and Grady Heath. Both swam for The Bolles School here in Jax and are now Gators. My son swam with them when they were young and my wife works with Grady's mom. Grady's dad is former Gator and Olympic gold medalist Mike Heath.

Dressel will do well in the 50 and 100 freestyle

Lochte should not have attempted the 4IM. It's a grueling race and he switched training sites to specifically work on speed and shorter distance races. If he wanted to do the 4IM again, he should have stayed in Gainesville.

If you guys are watching the trials, look out for Maxime Rooney. He's an incoming freshman and has a great chance to make the team on either the 4x100 or 4x200 relays.

I don't even want to picture the particulars of that backup job in porn.

Always great to see Gators on the Olympic team. Seems like swimming and track and field are the 2 big sports for the Gators. Hope they bring home the gold!

I wonder if Demps can make the 6 man cut for the relay team/reserves this time. I think I heard he was going to be competing to make the team.

What, no love for Conor Dwyer?

Hey, Mike used to be my coach back in the 90s. I remember when Grady was born. Time flies, man.

Conor Dwyer took 2nd in the 200 free last night (by one one-hundredth of a second!), qualifying him for his second event in Rio.

Ryan Murphy, another Bolles graduate, took the 100 back - guy should have gone to UF but went to Cal Berkeley instead.

Yesterday also saw Michael Phelps' first races of the Trials. He took first in both the prelims and the semifinals of the 200 fly - I don't think anyone will challenge him for the top spot and I think he'll be a contender for the gold in Rio once again. He's got two sets of races tomorrow - the 100 free prelims and semis and the 200 fly finals.

EDIT: Welp, Phelps scratched out of the 100 free which makes UF's Caeleb Dressel the No. 3 seed in that event. Dwyer (#10 seed) and Lochte (#8 seed) are also swimming the 100 free.

Caleb Dressel just punched his ticket by finishing second in the 100 Free for an individual berth in the Olympics.

Go Gators!!!
