I always think to myself, hey self, cause that's what I call myself, how about you shoot off some emails you've been meaning to send but just can't pull yourself away from swimming in a pool long enough to do it.

As usual, URG misses the point. Just another example of how the iPhone is a superior product.

No, I didn't miss any point. It is real world pointless. No one is getting these phones just to use them underwater for extended periods of time. That feature was always simply meant to be a short term safety net, and it will be that way for the iPhone as well if you left it in the water long enough, as it too has it's limitations. And of course, salt water will kill them both.

And it's just another example of how Apple takes an idea that someone else has already done and improves it. They make recipes, they just make recipes better (though often several years removed), I've never said they didn't.

I do question the controls on that little CNN experiment, however. Lots of cuts and not displaying real direct comparisons on their "tests".

This one did a slightly better job and appears to display direct comparisons, though not perfect. iPhone 7 still won as the S7 failed at the very end (and to some extent the iPhone 7 did too, just not a complete failure, but both were impressive, for this test.

While I completely understand what you are saying, a majority of features Apple adds to any of its devices are not added until they are much further perfected. Therefore, features are leaked out and other companies run with them to be the first to launch, regardless of how well they work.

I'm not saying Apple doesn't take an idea that others have and make them better because that happens as well.

I won't disagree that has been the case before, but I'm quite certain that they haven't been sitting on this type of feature for 3 to 5 years while Samsung did it and Apple not sue them.
They did this because they were forced to, just like they'll be forced to upgrade to OLED at some point (though the note 7 issues is probably going to be a boast to iPhone when all is said and done).
It's also partly why the iPhone lost its headphone jack, they don't advertise it, but they simply couldn't get it to be water resistant to the level it is with that jack, plus it was an opportunity to sell another product (wireless headphones), which they never pass up, and that's fine, it's just business, but is what it is. It's also a chance to beef up some other features with the freed up space, which they do advertise.
