The stats for the two teams are very similar:

Scoring
Florida 23.4 PPG
Iowa 26.8 PPG

Scoring Defense
Florida 17.9 PPG
Iowa 17.9 PPG

Total Offense
Florida 345.1 YPG
Iowa 333.3 YPG

How terrible is it that we've become Iowa?

1983. Coldest I can remember ever being in the state. Went with a buddy that was an Iowa fan. We had a $10 bet. He paid me off in pennies.
My dad has a history of paying off bets in pennies, only he puts them in a bottle full of mineral oil.

My first Gator game. Froze my ass off!! I don't think I've ever been that cold at a game since then.

The coldest Gator game I ever remember sitting through, was a Tangerine bowl in Gainesville against Miami of Ohio. That was one cold cold night.

Navet, you probably remember that was the year the Tangerine Bowl, the pre-cursor to the Citrus Bowl, was moved to Gainesville because they were renovating and enlarging the stadium in Orlando. The game pitted the Miami of Ohio Redskins versus the Florida Gators.

Miami of Ohio went 10 - 0 in the regular season. The Gators were the first SEC team ever to play in the Tangerine Bowl because at that time, 1973, the SEC teams thought the Tangerine Bowl was beneath them. The stadium down in Orlando wasn't very big and the pay out was not big enough, but the Tangerine Bowl wanted to develop into a bigger bowl game.

Darn it if Miami didn't come to Florida Field and beat the Gators. And yes, it was perhaps the coldest college football night ever in the state of Florida I remembered that, but I went back and reviewed a little of the history of the Tangerine Bowl. To top it off Gator fans got something of a kick the next year when the Tangerine Bowl returning to Orlando again featured Miami of Ohio playing the Georgia Bulldogs. You guessed it. Miami won again. So the SEC wanted no part of Miami of Ohio. Miami went to the Tangerine Bowl again the next year making it three in a row and this time they beat the South Carolina Gamecocks who obviously were not an SEC team back then.

For a moment, I was 9 years old again Joe. Thanks for that trip down memory lane.

I'm pretty sure the last time I saw Iowa against the Gators it was in a bowl game in Jacksonville. I mean it was like antarctic cold that night, think Wayne Peace was QB. In the bleachers, under a blanket with some college chick I didn't marry... stayed warm and we won by a TD I think.
Ah yes. The temperature may not have been very low but the friggin wind made it worse that night. It was Sr QB Wayne Peace while Hayden Fry was the Iowa coach. For me, it was too damn cold to enjoy that 14-6 win that night.

I've been to five Outback Bowl games, four of them involving UF, including the pair of games against Iowa and the win over Penn State in 2011, Meyer's last game as UF coach and Paterno's last bowl game.

Some random cell phone pics from that affair (some of 'em are pretty bad, but whaddaya gonna do?), including afterward as the team signed autographs and prepared to load the bus for the hotel. Everyone was hanging around for one last look at Meyer in UF colors. Felt kinda sad.

Tirico's call of Ahmad Black's game sealing pick 6 is still one of my favorites. 12:30 mark of this video.

And yet....

They are Iowa and I'd rather stab my eyes with a fork than watch them.
And yet, you'll watch and make us all stab our eyes out with your comments, or won't watch and still make us stab our eyes out with your comments. Lucky us!
