That camera is pretty impressive.
I see you can tilt it, but no zooming huh?

Pretty soon you'll be buzzing cars on the highway or freakin out those kids on the basketball court
No, no zoom. As I get better I'll fly lower, which is where all the danger is.

And I didn't see those kids on the basketball court until I viewed the video, or I think I would have buzzed the court.

Good to know.

Just wondering about my odds of trashing this thing without prior experience.
They are actually shockingly easy to fly. Basically, if you get higher than the surrounding buildings, trees, and power lines, you CAN'T crash it, because there's nothing to crash into. And with mine, you just press a button to return to home and it comes back and lands itself in the same place it took off from automatically - you don't even have to manually land the thing.

Went to the park with my wife and grandson and flew it around. Nothing spectacular about this video, I was mainly practicing getting lower to the ground. That's where all the danger is (trees) so I need more practice.

Do you get the Smithsonian channel at your house?
The reason I ask is they have a show called Aerial America, which you can go to their website and see also, anyway, while they often use a helicopter, they also frequently use drones for their shots. Might give you some ideas going forward when you make videos, and it's a pretty interesting show if you're into that type of stuff.

Best use for them yet. Beats fast car chases in heavy traffic risking high collateral damage too.

Not sure if you want to get in the business but it's a booming...

Demand for commercial drone pilots booming

While the list of rules for operating a drone is long and detailed (read the whole list here), the requirements for becoming a drone pilot are relatively simple. You need to be at least 16 years old. You also need to pass a written test. After that, you can fly a registered drone. And it’s becoming increasingly possible to find work that will pay you for this skill.

From their origins in the military, drones are now appearing in many different industries, including real estate, filmmaking, and advertising. Companies such as Amazon and Google are testing ways to deliver packages via drone in the future, although federal rules for commercial drone delivery are not yet in place, and some cities are moving to restrict drone use. A 2013 report released by a trade group, the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International, projected more than 100,000 new jobs in unmanned aircraft by 2025. Analysts at PricewaterhouseCoopers predicted last year that the global market for commercial applications of drone technology could reach $127 million by 2020. View the entire story here.

I just talked to a friend who is planning his wedding and he booked a drone guy for his ceremony for $850. So for any people wanting to see money from their drones this could be another option.

People lose all reason when it comes to weddings.

Got some beach drone footage today. That beach house is something like 30,000 SF, by the way.

DJI just came out with a new ultra portable drone called the Mavic Air. Significantly smaller even than the Mavic Pro, but still handles decent wind gusts and can fly 40mph. It has all the new fancy tracking modes and networking which allows it to fly a couple miles away without losing signal. I preordered one and just got notified that it shipped. Hopefully I'll get it this week.
