I'm an ardent supporter of defending everyone's right to free speech regardless if I agree with the thoughts. For instance, I typically disagree with Sas, but I am grateful for his viewpoints.
That being said, it feels to me, as a long time lurker, that most threads are now being hijacked extremely quickly by a few people who disagree. These people are not always the same, but the moral of the story is that threads always disintegrate quickly. If you're an optimist, you're a fool. If you're a pessimist, you're a jerk. If you believe anything besides football is important, you're a snowflake. If football is the only thing in life, you're close minded. Doesn't really matter what the thread topic is originally. Inevitably, this is how the thread will shake out - arguing over one of these two points. There really is no more debate and discussion. It's draw a line in the sand and you're on one side or the other and that's it. It gets boring after a while when there's nothing worthwhile to read and say.
I see nothing wrong with being pissed that our football program sucks right now. But, I also see nothing wrong with rejoicing when the program shows a glimmer of hope.
Long story short, none of us are paid professionals in our sports programs. None of us know the future. Be critical of gaffes and be rejoicful in successes. And stop being such a harda$$ all the time thinking you're always right and know exactly the way our sports programs will shake out each year.
