With my raise going in effect this month I'll be able to afford to do a few more things.and with this year's home slate I'm thinking about flying down and catching a game.

Whats the best place to fly in to and should I stay directly in GVille or outside and just drive in for game.day?

Best place to stay? Best place to fly in to? What game? Etc...any help would be much appreciated

I'm thinking you should fly into Jacksonville, and drive @ 90 minutes to Hogtown. I know you should stay at the Magnolia Plantation in Gainesville. This year, if I was only going to one game, it would be LSU.

Go to a night game for sure. The early season day games are brutal. Flying in to Jax is probably the best idea unless you can somehow get a good flight into G'ville. Hotels usually have a two night min if I remember. And they use to sell out early. Magnolia Plantation is good. We actually used to have luck slipping into MP on game days and getting a room but that was hit or miss. I've never stayed at the Holiday Inn on the corner of University and 13th but you can't beat the location.

Does anybody have any experience with the hotel rooms at JWR Student Union?

Of course anyone who's had the privilege will tell you that the absolute best hotel in G'ville was the Bambi on SW 13th but sadly I've heard it's been demolished. A little further south is the Gator Lodge which is also top notch ;)

Look up the local klan meeting and see what they have planned. They might get a group rate.

Easiest flight will be into Miami. Just a short drive to the stadium.

The krishna's from Alachua can hook you up with free room and board. You can usually catch up with them on the quad for lunch and on Friday afternoons at 13th & University.

Poor ferg.

Flying into Gainesville is usually several hundred dollars more. Jax is 90 minutes away. Tampa and Orlando are 2 hours.

Hotels in Gainesville will be a huge problem. Stay on the "side" of the airport you chose. If you pick Tampa or Orlando, you could probably even stay in Ocala (40 min south of Gainesville).

I've always lived within 2 hours & have never paid for a hotel room in Gainesville. However, I gather they tend to have 2-night minimums and premium pricing for home games. Since this is a big, special trip you might want to go all-in & stay in Gainesville. Ocala is not far, though. If you go there, eat at the Mojo Grill if you get a chance.

Might be worth hunting travel packages that bundle tickets, hotel, car etc.

The visiting teams tend to stay at the Hilton in Ocala. You could see Ed Orgeron. Apparently he has this thing where he orders a drink at the bar, drinks it, then chews up the glass & gargles with it the night before each game. And practice. And days off.

Dont you read the main sports forum? We suck and there is no hope for our team as long as the current staff is there.
I would would check the rates into Jax and Gville right now. You could stay in Starke or if you fly into Gville check out Cedar Key for two nights .....decent seafood and a great view. Or if you wanta just hang in Gville for the atmosphere do that. Early games are hot but usually late in the day or night.

Fly into Jax and start to make you way to GVille. That's a nice B&B in Waldo which isn't far. Easy to get to & from GVille.

Get your game and flight info figured out first. A night game is the best.

Then we can all help with the rest

SEC should be releasing game times for first three weeks soon. You can use elimination somewhat on game times as well. For example, the Corndog game. The only other marquee matchup that day is Bammer at A&M. That all but guarantees the game will be a 3:30 CBS or 7 pm ESPN.

I live in Ocala by I-75 and SR200. Fly into Orlando, shuttle up to me, and you can stay at my house. I have a large house with three extra bedrooms. My wife is a looker and I have three daughters that are eight and younger. As long as you can control yourself, you're more than welcome. Otherwise, Brad lives in Ocala and you can sleep in his pasture, bathe in his pool, and Uber it up.

The only thing you'll have to worry about with ferg is the burning cross in the front yard, other than that, he's alright

Make sure you're driving 10-15 mph over the speed limit there. Waldo is a fast moving town and you'll need to keep up with traffic.

Water, watch your speed in Lawtey, Starke, and Waldo.... Flight into Jax or Tampa. Stay on the outskits of town, or a surrounding town. Arrive early, and prefer a night game. Not only is it cooler, the atmosphere in stadium is crazier. And last just have fun.

Waldo abolished the Police Dept. While there is a very small Alachua Co Sheriff's Office presence in Waldo, it is definitely no longer the speed trap it used to be. Actually, the last few times I've driven through there, drivers were consistently exceeding the speed limit.

The biggest issue lately in the trip from Jax to Gainesville is the plethora of construction sites on the US301 route.

Some ASO like to hang out right at the speed changes, similar to Waldo PD.... but the presence is no where near as much. I used to drive Waldo 5 under, now I stick to or about 5 over the limit.
