So last night in the chat box... family board games was the topic. There are quite a few fans, and even someone who has designed his own board games. What are some of your favorites?

For the adult theme:
Cards Against Humanity is an obvious favorite. The expansion packs are hilarious. You have to be willing to laugh at some pretty crude humor.
Exploding Kittens. I havent bought this yet, but I have only heard great things.

Longer, strategy games:
Settlers of Catan. I have played it. And I do like it. But WAY too involved and long for me to be a favorite game.

For just 2 person strategy: my kids love playing Connect4. They are finally getting to the point where I dont destroy them.

For just good laughs: we use the cards from Headbands to do charades and totally changed the rules/points system. This silly simple charades generates the most laughs (for kids) by a long shot.

My youngest loves to play the classic Memory. Mainly because nobody can beat the little shiit because she almost has a photographic memory. I did once and I still rub it in her face. We have played it so many times that we know all the little nicks and bends on the backside of the cards.

More time reasonable (~ 2 hours), family strategy:
Ticket to Ride. This is a house favorite. We did modify the rules a tad to speed it up. It has really taught the kids a lot about geography. There are millions of expansion packs.

Our #1 favorite game is Battlesheep. The board is reshaped for every game... so it is always new and different. Kinda like a checkers or chinese checkers, except you can really pin in an opponent and screw them over. There are no teams, so it makes for interesting emotions when 2 people start to gang up on someone else (usually mom). Even only the adults will play this against each other.

Cards Against Humanity is something my wife and I with a group of friends play on a regular basis. We have two expansion packs, so the game usually involves starting early, a bottle of wine, couple of cases of beer and a lot of snacks. We can play for hours the best answer wasn't from the cards...

We were playing my buddy is Puetro Rican and his wife is white. The question she was reading "what did I bring back from Mexico?" So she asked her 5 year old daughter as she came in the kitchen without missing a beat "Daddy".

Ok, just bought exploding kittens in Amazon. I was going to buy Battleship.... but man does it look cheap and pathetic. I saw an original, unopened box from 1990..... $85. :lmao2:

My 6 year old really likes card games. Dutch Blitz, Rat-a-tat-cat, and Sleeping Queens are really fun. Sleeping Queens are invented by a 6 year old from a dream she had one night. Check em out.

Cards Against Humanity is hilarious...great adult game. I personally love the classics like Clue and Risk and Monopoly, although I can't always convince the rest of my family to join in. Our favorite family game is Wits & Wagers. It doesn't require vast knowledge like a typical trivia game, but does require a lot of strategy in how to bet on who has the best answer. It's great for adults or the whole family. If you haven't played it I highly recommend it.

We really enjoy Forbidden Island at our house. It's a cooperative game, trying to get the treasures and escape the island before it floods and everybody drowns.

A couple other good favorites that we played at our recent family reunion - Organ Attack - trying to kill off your body parts with various diseases. Made by the Awkward Yeti comic people, very entertaining.

And if you're looking for a bit of early 90's nostalgia, here is Oregon Trail - the card game. Try to travel a path from Missouri to Oregon without dying of cholera, getting bitten by a rattlesnake, or drowning trying to ford a river. Everything, including the die, is in 8-bit glory. Unfortunately, I died of dysentery.

There's this new game that's gained popularity over the last year or so called Chickapig. I've never played it and the rules seem a bit complicated, but people love it.

Man I played the original a ton back in the day. I'll have to find the card game!

That is rough luck - if I remember right, only 3 calamity cards in the entire deck are instant death. 2 dysentery and 1 rattlesnake. I'm sorry you had to go out that way.

What's funny is when we decided to play I jokingly said "I hope I die of dysentery." Just sucked it was my first card
