It's hard to assess who's on more a hot seat now, the inept, laissez faire coach or the clueless administrator who extended him and the embarrassment of an offensive coordinator another year while raising their pay. For what? For winning by default Eastern Division "titles"?
Stricklin's gotta be swallowing hard right now assuming he has a pulse. He put himself in this bind and now he faces his own embarrassment if this sh*t show plays out further, as it undoubtedly will. The Big Eraser, a ballhawking defense assembled by none other than Will Muschamp, is no longer around to bail out Mac. His inadequacies as a recruiter, as an assembler of coaching talent, as a development of players and as a schemer, are on full display now. The sum of the parts just plain wreaks.
The Mac backers, all three of them, will point to a 2018 recruiting class that is shaping up as top 10 material as the reason why he deserves No. 4, but the argument is fatally flawed. Mac recruited the first three plain Janers, Mac chose Nussmeier, Mac stayed with Nussmeier after it was obvious he wasn't the answer and Stricklin made it all the worse by rewarding these two bozos for being the most laughable 1-2 offensive duo in the southeast. Who's going to fess up to being the idiot now?
I'm ashamed of the product that was put on display in front of a nationally televised audience yesterday. I'm even more concerned over the hole to China we've dug since Urban Meyer ran out of Prilosec. I yearn for a football guy to assume the AD chair, but it ain't gonna happen.
Balance sheets and participation trophies matter more than football in 2017 on the University of Florida campus. Better get used to it. It's an unfortunate fact of life.
