I'm listening to Ackerman and Matthews.

Brady just opined that he doesn't believe that a young coach could handle the pressure at UF.

In other words, he's not willing to GAMBLE on a young coach.

Some of you will get that. :)

I'm unclear who's he. Ackerman or Stricklin? We're going to have an awfully difficult time filling the position to its fullest if we put an age limitation on it.

Chip failed so hard in the NFL, that execs hate him now. I don't think he ever goes back. Ever.
You could be right, but the NFL is a strange place. Pete Carroll failed in the NFL and then when he had huge success in college they brought him back. If Chip starting lighting it up in college there's a decent chance some NFL team would try again.

But my point goes beyond that - he may simply not like college football enough to be great at it again. He'd likely have to be surrounded by high-priced assistants, something I doubt UF goes for.

In short, I seriously doubt UF even contacts Kelly's agent to gauge interest. This is all message board fodder.

Ackerman's not willing to gamble on a new coach.

Watching the highlights of the UCF / Austin Peay game and UCF defense looks bad. Really Bad. Zookish bad.

Their offense looks similar to ours, only it works. Again, they are playing against a 1AA team.

I'm rethinking this Scott Frost thing.

Ackerman's clueless. The fans just want to feel a sense of improvement and a halfway entertaining product on offense. There's criticism at every SEC outpost. I actually think a younger coach would be in a better position to handle it than an older one who's more set in his ways.

The difference is Pete had a pro style system. Kelly's offense isn't suited for the NFL regardless of how many years go in between. Even his players were like wtf is this garbage? I just don't see him ever working in the NFL again. It really does seem like he wants to be known as a great coach and he's waiting for his opportunity to make that happen

Really? Give the guy the opportunity to recruit here and see. I believe he can and will win.

I would rather strike out swing for the fences on the next big thing than to settle for another 50 plus year old journey man that thinks 7 wins is a success

It’s clear from the PC that Stricklin wants a younger guy, but I think he’s looking more at disqualifying people like Les Miles than looking at someone who is Norvall’s age

Mullens wife isn't down with a possible return.

https://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/s...welcoming-difficult-coaching-can-gainesville/

“There is nothing like being a Mississippi State Bulldog,” she said. “The support of fans here is so unlike anything anywhere else. It’s unbelievable. I’ve never experienced a really bad situation. The former school we were at, won two national championships there, won practically every game we played for four years there.

“It wasn’t if you won or lost. If we didn’t score 43 points or more, I was going to the grocery store in Orlando where I worked with the Golf Channel and I was driving the groceries back to Gainesville because it was that bad.”

Regarding Kelly.....

The commissioner, like the commissioner of any sport doesn't work for the owners or in this case the schools. He is how this consultation would go:

Dr. Fuchs: We are hiring Kelly

SEC commissioner whoever that might be now or then: Yes sir.

That said, I watched a bit of UCF v. Memphis last night and Frost might be a younger less problematic Kelly.

I mean what would the commissioner do? Kick us out? LOL. UF is the ****ing SEC. We have almost 100 more conference titles than the next closest school. Please try to tell us we can't hire who we want

I don't know what James Franklin is being paid or what his buyout is, but I imagine he would be intrigued by the UF job just because of the recruiting advantages compared to Penn St. He'd be more expensive than Frost, but he also has a stronger resume.

Definitely don't want an older coach who is sitting on past accolades. Coaches generally don't keep up intensity like Saban through the years. Ymmv. I'm old, and I might have some wisdom, but intensity to teach a bunch of teenagers, not so much :)

Go revisit the poll. Frost got 62% of the vote. We can't be that collectively dumb. He meets the Ben Franklin test. If we don't at least put out a feeler to the guy, we're brain dead.
After 4 years of Muschamp and 2+ years of McElwain, many of us Gators are already brain dead.

Just remember, going 0-12 to 8-5 at ucf happened quite often with George O'Leary. He seemed to have one down year, and then sky rocketed the following year. Not saying I'm not impressed with Scott Frost, He's my number one goal. But I'm looking more at the offensive production. His offense has run almost 100 plays less than OU this year (#1 offense), and with how much they're scoring, that means UCF has been insanely proficient in that department.

As bad as the SEC has been lately, especially on offense, the commissioner would cream his jeans at the prospect of bringing Chip Kelly into the conference.

Going to throw this out. I'm not a fan of the idea but what about Gus Malzahn? Innovative offense and Auburn is getting tired of him. Pretty good recruiter. Who knows.
