I don't think Bill Belichick could handle college kids.

I agree and he has a culture where the players handle most issues. Not all of them, but most since they believe in the process and will demand performance from every player. That is something I don't really see in our current team, perhaps it is there but not being advertised. The defense does not have a chain, or a doll representing their being one team not a bunch of individuals. They don't have say Tebow insisting on performance, leading by example in many ways, or pushing the entire team.

Finebaum talks to Kelly weekly, he says. At first he thought it was 50/50 that he would go back to coaching. Now he believes Kelly will be coaching in the fall and most likely for a school out west.

Why would he want to come to the SEC? Surely he does not need the money, and he knows the west coast and its environment he has little idea of the SEC's. Of course if he just wants a massive challenge UF is a good choice, I doubt he wants that, he seems somewhat lazy in recruiting.

This time he is unemployed. I know, I know, enjoying retirement and all that. Still I would not be surprised if they make a run at him.

What is a "run"? Sure I might talk to his agent if he still has one or to him directly. If he say as I suspect that he is retired and not interested that would be that. Surely that has already occurred. I guess he might have contract issues, but I bet OK would not stand in his way if he wanted to come. Keep dreaming, it gives us something to post about.

Could you imagine Belichick having to kiss the a$$ of some 5* prima donna recruit.

Texting him every day to make sure the recruit "feels the love" of the program.
He wouldn't. He would literally only recruit 2 stars and cast offs and win with them

Pretty sure Bill would just extend the offer and then the kid would sit on pins and needles until he could sign his LOI.

Update from my source...

He talked to another ex-UT (Texas) player who is friends with Trey Burton. Burton said that a member of the UF Athletic Dept (assistant AD maybe) called him asking for feedback on Chip Kelly (who he played for). Burton fully endorsed Kelly and said Florida should hire him...

Just so you know... my source is a close personal friend who works in sports media here in Austin and works closely with many ex Longhorn players. I trust that he is telling me what he has heard and not making stuff up.

Kellys not coming.

I think the correct answer is closer to "we're not going to hire Kelly". I believe Kelly is probably in fact interested in the job. It's our interest that's in question imo.

I have zero reason to doubt this but they make thousands of these type calls about dozens maybe hundreds of coaches.

No offense, but it seems odd to me that former Longhorn players have access to inside info on the UF coaching search. Although, this does seem more likely than Frost not being interested in UF. It's probable Frost is undecided, but any coach in his position would be interested.

So we have a "former longhorns" player with this info and some radio guy from texas that nobody heard of until his tweet yesterday fueling the rumor mill...calling BS on all of it.

I am always amused by how all the principals in these search scenarios are so "chatty". They tell the intimate details to everyone....former players, boosters, parking lot attendants, hairdressers, etc. I am glad they are not in charge of national security secrets.

For example, how many people within his circle of acquaintances is Scott Frost going to talk with about his interest in another coaching job? There is likely a grain of truth (or more) in some of these rumors. Others are without foundation. The truth is out there somewhere but most likely not known by the landscape architect of a Bull Gator.

I will say it makes for fascinating reading.

lt is basically my friend poking around because I asked him to pass me any inside information he hears. He brings it up when he is already talking to them. A lot of these guys are already connected because they are all working in the industry. One guy was friends with Trey Burton (probably played with him on the Eagles)... that isn't that hard to believe.

I'm not saying an inquiry means we hire Kelly. I agree with Swamp Donkey that we probably do this for a lot of coaches. I certainly hope we do, but I figured I would share what I hear.
