Are we the next Arky?

Seriously. We have about 60 players on the team still from what I hear. Now factor in regular attrition for the offseason plus current players transferring/quitting for various reasons like being told they suck by the new staff, butthurtness over new staffs system, GPD and all the greens and girl trouble and my guess is we lose at least another 10-15 guys who aren't seniors...Wah-lah you have the same exact scenario that Arkansas went through after being single handedly destroyed by John l.......In fact it was so bad that even a decent 3X conference champion winning coach, Bert couldn't make any headway in 5 years and will be fired.

Still don't believe me? Look it might feel good to take a shot at FSU this season but mark my word, they will be a top 5 team again next year, too much talent and their players haven't quit in any of their games....When the get Francois and a host of injured players back in the offseason look out.

Now add in the Miami situation They are most likely looking at a playoff spot and ALL the S.Fl. recruits will be taking notice. In other words they will have a ton of momentum going forward regardless of how they finish the season....They're back....

Now add in the UCF wrinkle assuming that Frost does not take the UF job....The recruiting pie just served up an even smaller slice and he's going to get some pretty good athletes not to mention some of our 3 star filler recruits....Which brings me to this, I believe as I've said over the last 2 weeks that e we are going to get Chip Kelly.

Now I ask you if we do get him does he have the stuff to overcome what looks to be the biggest barrier ever facing UF football....4 other successful in state programs, current lack of talent and quality depth, a losing/quitting mindset instilled by a lying jackass loser of a coach....Now lets assume Chip rights the offense slightly(we have more talent on that side of the ball now) will our lack of talent and ANY meaningfull depth on defense make us competitive with more than just directional schools and the crappy teams in the East Division?

How long does this process take a coach like him(or any other coach) to overcome? Before you say really quickly consider the 4 other in state programs. Now consider that former coach Meyer only had to deal with the other 2 big programs and Zook left good numbers and QUALITY players at EVERY position...Since Meyer left we have never truly recovered our numbers and CERTAINLY not quality of depth.

So tell me what you think our new coach is up against(regardless if it's Kelly or Frost)?

Mac was a John L protégé, so, to answer, we are well on our way to being as mediocre as Arky

With a hire like Kelly recruits will be jumping on board.
He could sign a couple classes filled with players actually talented enough to warrant a scholarship at Florida and have us competing in year 3. The loss of some of Mac's big time 3 star recruits will help us more than it hurts us.

I'm thinking about the same. I know some will claim a year or 2 but as you alluded to our overall quality is probably in the bottom half of all D1 programs at this point and I think our numbers(roster) will hit an all time low this offseason.

The good news is what talent we do have will finally get this thing called coaching.
I do think we'll see a lot of improvement in the first 2 years but we won't have the depth to expect championship level play till year 3.

So your saying it takes 3 years to build a program? Oh that's not going to go over well.

I don't think it's going to go over well either....but, we've never faced a situation like this at least in modern Gator football. We've never had this little talent of defense and although there are some quality guys on offense it just not very deep at most positions other than RB and Wr.

No I'm saying it'll take 3 years to completely fix the mess that Mac left.
I also said we'll see improvement right away under real coaching.
Something we never saw under Shark Humper.

I'm just being honest and realistic I don't really give a damn how it goes over.

Arky isn't the next Arky. If they hire a good coach, they will be competing again in 1.5 years. Their last three coaches were competing in the SECW and their next three will also likely.

If we hire the right person, we will have flashes quickly, but yeah, Mac's recruiting classes will hamper us til they are replaced almost completely.

I don't know about bottom half of all D1 programs. The raw numbers dont support that but the holes in so many areas affect the reality of the roster.

UF will be as bad or as good as the coach who is hired. Too many resources and too much talent in the state for a "good" coach to fail.

I think our numbers will take a hit....always get a lot of transfers when staff turns over and some guys who were favorites of Butters will probably test the new guy. If someone comes in here and wins 8 games and gets a top 10-15 class they will be worth keeping for at least 3 or 4 years. I know Muschamp was not a great coach but Meyers recruiting has a lot to do with the situation we are still in as it took us 5 years to get our numbers right on the offensive line....now like Arky our defensive numbers will be so bad that we will be playing a few walk ons on defense like they've had to for several years...Also not suprising is that Shannon left there to come here....:headslap:

I don't know if that holds true anymore. We've got 4 in state programs on top of us right now. We've never had more than 2 before.
