I was just reading about how Kelly is still getting millions from the 49ers after getting fired. I wonder if he would be willing to take less money (and perhaps more for assistants) knowing he's still getting that 49ers cash for a couple of years?

Anything true or factual on this board is unlikely and, if so, is purely coincidental.

And the more common corollary, "Any successful 'I told you so' claims are not indicative of inside information or being right in the future'

ESPN writer predicts that if Chip Kelly comes to the SEC, it will be at Alabama
By Connor Riley SEC Country staff
October 11, 2017

Chip Kelly will be the biggest name in the 2017 coaching carousel. And a number of SEC fans would be thrilled if he landed at there school, specifically Tennessee, Ole Miss and Arkansas.

But per ESPN’s Alex Scarborough, if Kelly is going to join an SEC school, it won’t be as a head coach. He says if Chip Kelly comes back to college football, it will be as a quality coach.

Who knew April first stretched all the way into November?

Does his money get pro rated for a coaching job, like most NFL contracts...

I believe it does. He's getting $6 million next year guaranteed from the 49ers. UF could pay him $25,000 and he'd still get $5,975,000 from San Francisco.

Unless Jeremy F can bring us a proven winner, he needs to stay out of the mix. IMHO Charlie is not a good fit. I still remember the disaster in the Peach Bowl.

Let's start with Kelly's career in Philadelphia. When the Eagles hired Kelly in 2013, they gave him a five-year, $32.5 million deal that paid him roughly $6.5 million per year.

After three seasons, the Eagles decided they didn't want Kelly anymore, so they fired him with two years and $13 million left on his contract, meaning they still owed him $6.5 million for the 2016 and 2017 seasons.

The good news for the Eagles is that most contracts include offset language, which means they didn't have to pay Kelly his full total if someone else was paying him, and that someone else turned out to be the 49ers in 2016.

In January, Kelly signed a four-year, $24 million deal that was worth $6 million annually. With the offset language, that means the 49ers paid him $6 million and the Eagles paid him $500,000 in 2016.

In 2017, it's possible that Kelly could be collecting money from three different NFL teams. If the 53-year-old gets hired as a coach in 2017 (or an assistant coach), then Kelly will be getting pay checks from nearly 10 percent of the NFL (three out of 32 teams would be paying him, which is a total of 9.4 percent).

No matter what, Kelly will get at least $6.5 million in 2017 because that's what he was due for the final year of his Eagles' deal. The only thing that's not clear is who will be forking that money over. As ProFootballTalk.com noted over the weekend, there's not much precedent when it comes to a situation like this. The 49ers and Eagles both owe him money for 2017 and they'll likely have to ask the league office who's responsible for the bulk of Kelly's salary next season.

If Kelly were to sign as an offensive coordinator somewhere for $1 million in 2017, that would be $1 million the 49ers and Eagles don't have to pay him. If Kelly doesn't sign with anyone for 2017, he'll make $6.5 million from the Eagles and 49ers combined next season.

If he stays out of football after that, the 49ers would have to pay him $6 million to do nothing for the 2018 and 2019 seasons.

Basically, if Kelly takes the next three years off, he'll still make $18.5 million. It's nice work, if you can get it.

Fooley has proven that he has no business hiring football coaches after the train wrecks he left behind with Butters and the Dunce. Remember, Meyer was a Machen hire, not a Fooley hire. Keep that clown as far away from football as possible.

That would be hilarious. Stick it to the DeBartolos? These mofos have connections to the ole Mafia don in Tampa (Trafficante). Might be calling for trouble?

If Chip is getting $6 MILLION from 49ers for the next year for doing nothing , and getting whatever he is getting from ESPN, why would he want to coach college football? Am sure 49ers would love it. Just another year of stress for Chip and family.

This stood out to me in that article. And it's exactly why people have to pay $10 for a small beer and $8 for a hot dog at NFL games and one of the reasons I don't watch or support the NFL. They are stupid with their money and expect the customers to pay for their stupidity.

"The 49ers have just been throwing away money lately. Between Kelly and Jim Tomsula -- along with their coaching staffs -- and the firing of general manager Trent Baalke, the 49ers will pay fired members of their organization an estimated total of $69 million to not do anything for the team."

And the league pays Goodell $30 million a year for what I still haven't figured out

It's true that he would essentially be working for free next year, since he'd be getting the same money for doing nothing. However, if he wants to get back into coaching, you have to take advantage of opportunities. The UF job is a big opportunity.

It's really all TV money. I think the ticket and concession money is just gravy. However, that TV money is now starting to decline for the first time.

He's become the Donald Trump of athletic directors with all the tweeting. And his attempts at misdirection are starting to get ridiculous.

"Chip Kelly? Would never hire him. He's a fat pig."

I kind of agree. A blanket, generic tweet about not believing everything we hear, in line with his press conference, makes sense. But addressing the same matter over and over, or adding misdirection, almost makes him guilty of getting swept up in every rumor.

In addition, logic would tell you that it obviously can’t ALL be misdirection or baseless speculation. It’s highly unlikely that we’re hiring someone completely off the radar for his first big splash. So one of the rumors he’s adamantly dismissing is probably true. Probably best to to just let things play out.
