I don’t disagree, but they’ve looked like muck 90% of the time this season. I’d prefer to have a DC who can recruit and coach them up.

Keep in mind that because of the talent exodus and injury to Marcel Harris they have been playing true freshmen in the secondary since day 1. Not to mention that the offensive juggernaut UF puts on the field keeps the defense on the field 70% of the game. Lack of depth and lots of time on the field is a bad combination.

Nah. Shannon and crew still has the ability to recruit and they didn’t.
You realize that the HC is the one who decides to sign 3 WR and 3 DTs or 6 WRs and 0 DTs, right?

And the head coach decides whether he's going to wait till January to even start recruiting, spend all his time trying to steal Alabama's linebackers (Wilson and Davis) and then authorize offers to backup plan 6 days before Signing Day after everyone else is committed, right?

RS does have some obligation to convince the head coach to change the decisions being made but it was pretty clear that butter teeth wasn't going to listen to anyone else. Remember he was just a position coach when this was sewn. The defense was always going to be terrible this year. Sidehat was smart in selling high.

If they decide to keep RS I'm good with it at least for a year.

So Mac scouted every single player we went after and only wanted the 3 *s? I highly highly highly doubt that. Now it could be his schedule that we recruited on, but we still went after elite guys and didn’t land any of them. Ever. On the defensive side of the ball. At the end of the day the recruiter needs to close and we didn’t have any closers that were worth a damn.

Again, I don’t disagree that they’re less talented or that we’ve had injuries. I also don’t disagree that the offense has sucked balls, but I think we need mostly a clean slate, and that includes Shannon.

The problem isnt the secondary, though we ve obviously been soft there too.

Our DEs get beaten on i thought we d be 6-6 or 7-5 this year. I alsonthought we d have that terribke coach until Oct 2018 edge run, and most of the time our ILBs and DTs are nonexistent.

Next year will be FAR better once 55, 56 and 57 are ready. If Wildman stays and moves back to SDE w Polite playing WDE on running downs we could conceivably have a legit DL again. That flock of 220-240 lb flyweight DEs can either get their azzes to the gym and learn (and care about) how to play the run or sit on the bench til 3rd and long.

Yes, I am astounded at how poorly we contain any running play that goes wide. Also been impressed with the young interior linemen.

Of course not. The QC guys do, send it to RC who sends recommendations up but Mac decided who and when. A position coach or even coordinator cant even make an offer.

contrary to the 3 Star whisperer talk, we never targeted most of these kids. We we were always publicly trying to land the blue chippers that ended up at clowtown, trailertown or meatchicken. We just didn't land hardl any of them, and we're always so late to the game that we ended up with third or fourth tier leftovers.

Maybe related, maybe not, but as of 10 minutes ago Spurrier was at the Gainesville airport per a source of mine.

Something is up, cause usually on Thursday mornings around the time I’m taking my kids to school, I always hear Spurrier on XM radio as a guest and he wasn’t on there this morning. He’s been on there every Thursday during the season as far as I remember and he wasn’t on there this morning, so I guess he had something come up.

UNC transfer DT, Marlon Dunlap, will join the fray too, which should help. An actual 300+ lb DT.

Better days appear to be ahead!

Harris should be back and if he's healthy, he'll help to add the run defense in a substantial way. I still think Reese could be really solid, but he needs better than Skipper, because I think the effort and talent is there. Not so sure how much potential the other guys have.
