I am unhappy with this season... I know these kids put a lot of time and effort into it. I truly believe they quit for UGA and Mizzou.

I believe these kids have been through a ton this year between suspensions, injuries and coaching issues. These are college kids... I don't think it is ridiculous to send them to a bowl game if we win out and they get the opportunity. Most of these kids have never had opportunities like that in their lives. Also.. what type of message does that send to recruits if UF rejects going to the game?

Most of these players played in a bowl last year, and the freshmen that didn't will go to one next year and in future years. They aren't being robbed of anything that they haven't or won't experience. The pre-Christmas bowl in Birmingham isn't anything they players would be that excited about anyways. Many players will probably be embarrassed to be there because they know its a crappy bowl. If players quit so easily against a hated rival, why would they be motivated to play in a worthless bowl?

Also the message it sends to recruits is that we aren't satisfied with playing in a crappy bowl with a losing record. We want to earn our right to play in bowl games, and we want to win championships. I don't think good recruits would have a problem with it. If they do, then they can go to UT. I want players that want/expect to win.

That would be cool, but I never remember a coach taking over a new team and coaching their bowl game.
Yeah, probably unprecedented, but what would it hurt? Plus, UF would be jacked for a nothing bowl and people might actually travel to a crappy bowl

I will believe it when it is official. Now I don't think we are getting a bowl bid, but if we do get one I bet we will take it. If it leaves out an SEC school we might be obligated to take it.

I would like the extra practices especially if a new coach has input as to what they do and how they do it.

I don't expect to beat FSU so no bowl for us.

Yeah I’d love that and agree it could only help our team heading into next season, but doubt Kelly would want to take on such a depleted team for his first game as head coach and possibly lose in a lower level bowl. I’ll be happy if Kelly can keep this recruiting class together and add some defensive studs to it.

What if Kelly fired Nuss and started installing his offense? You basically get two springs to install the offense. All he really has to do is install about a dozen plays and we’d score more points than Nuss’s system.

Just think about it. They get about an extra 15 practices to install the basic playbook plus a lower bowl game. During winter conditioning they have the playbook and the core concepts to study. Then spring you perfect the core concepts and build on them. It’s a heck of a jumpstart with no downside because our offense can’t get any worse

That seems very unlikely that Kelly will start coaching right away. I imagine his focus will be on recruiting and hiring a staff, which are both very important. It's also a lot to ask on the players to learn new plays and terminology in 3 weeks even if it is only a dozen or so plays. In the spring they have 2-3 months in the playbook before spring practice even starts. And like Gatorraid81 said, that's pretty unusual for new coaches to start in the bowl game.

Even if we go to a bowl game, Kelly taking over before it is not going to happen, for the reasons stated above.

The idea of a new coach coaching the team this season is absurd and I can’t believe it’s even being discussed.

Yeah.....cause we never discuss absurd topics here.
No seriously, Freeze is our next coach. I have a contact that is only now letting me leak this info, but it’s 100% legit. He told me while waxing my taint. I’ll get more info on Monday when I see him for my butt plug resizing. /bullwithnonuts

If, and its a big if, we went bowling the current staff would coach the game no doubt. While Kelly puts his staff together. I don't know how feasible that is.
Most kids are signing Dec 20th. I can't imagine many kids (if any) are going to decommit from Kelly. They're be plenty of time to pick up anybody left after Dec 20th however pickings will be slim.

I understand your point about recruiting. My thing is that I'm not in favor of rewarding people who don't deserve it. This team has been crap, and the players shouldn't get the reward of playing in a bowl. I don't care if the players don't like it. It's an embarrassment to the university to go bowling with only 5 wins, and by not going you are communicating to the fans and players that mediocrity isn't acceptable. Don't like it. Work hard and be better next year.

I honestly don't think the extra practice time will make much of a difference. The entire offense is going to change dramatically in the spring, and guys that are banged up have more time to get healthy. The defense may get some benefit of more practice time, but extra time in the weight room under a real strength and conditioning coach would be pretty beneficial too.

This whole conversation may be moot. It's very possible that we lose one or two more games this season anyways.

We are having a coaching change so we could use part of that five weeks getting familiar with the new system. If not you have to wait until spring break before coaches and players can can be together.

Input not control or coaching, so he would not be responsible for whatever happened.

I understand he wants his players in great shape, so these practices could be say half running them into better shape to succeed in the future.
