I missed the first 5 minutes or so, but I thought he handled himself well and answered the questions pretty thoroughly and understandable. It's talk right now and we're waiting for the walk, but I feel some better afterward. As others have noted, I appreciate him telling the team to "rest up" in preparation for the off-season conditioning experience under his leadership. Makes me feel like he realizes our deficit in this area, though he said he hadn't watched much/any video on us. Guessing the piss poor job that was done in S/C has been emphasized from within and/or from SEC contemporaries that faced us. I know he has already lined up in-home visits with some of our commits and he alluded to the importance of this piece. He acknowledged the pressure to win is great among our fans and followers and seemed to embrace that aspect. He didn't dodge the questions about his "lateral move" comments and those of his wife. Emphasized that his wife was happy with the opportunity to return and if she wasn't, probably wouldn't have considered it (though 6 mil/year can help change perspectives, I'm quite sure!). This is what I remember that stuck out to me.

He said that Stricklin first called him Friday after Thanksgiving to gauge interest and that he slept on it and called him the next morning to get it going and the deal was done shortly thereafter. If so, it makes me believe that he probably knew he could stay at Miss St as long as he wanted to, but to actually have a shot to compete for the championships, Florida offered the best chance and challenge. In Starkville, he had probably topped out and was held in high regard for what he had done; at Florida, there would be room to rise, but at a risk related to him meeting much higher expectations. Again, 6 mil/year makes it easier to decide, but it looks like he's looking forward to the challenge and is confident he can make a dent.

The Old Ball Coach's endorsement helps in my mind as do those of former players. He obviously did something right while he was here before. I'm ready to see what he can do. He may not be the pin-up we were looking for, but after the last two regimes, he don't look so bad. I really wish I knew what the hold up on Norvell was all about. May have missed an explanation of that, but would be interested to know. I just want something I can feel good about where the program is concerned. The void this year was immense. Feeling like we've got a better chance at least.

Thanks. That was pretty much take. I would add that I liked his comments when asked about the Florida fan expectations (a veiled attempt to trash Gator fans). He said all fans in the SEC had high expectations.

OSU did that to land Meyer. Easy with the "not very intelligent" crap. Some of you need to check yourselves.

It's not SHannon over Mullen...it is something better than Mullen...our 4th choice.

Who would we be landing in a year from now worth destroying the recruiting class and turning us into UT?

@RocketCityGator ...just saw Kelly on Sportcenter say that we didn't offer him the job! I can't begin to imagine what went on then when we flew the prez and contract speciálist up to see him. Don't think we'd have done that without feeling like we had a deal. As Lenon might have crooned.."Most peculiar, Mama!"

That's part of the gig. You pretend you didn't offer and they pretend they didn't turn you down. Hell, most of the time you pretend they didn't even interview you.

Wait...so you agree...lol. This is why I called our fans gutless. You won't stick by your guns. You'd rather go through the motions and then 2.5 years from now...you'll go "I guess I was wrong".

This is why we've had three awful hires in a row. Because most of you just bend over and take it.

There is NO GUARANTEE hire. If not Mullen then who? Please stop bitching about it. They took the safest road with tons of upside. Kelly showed he isnt interested. Frost is an unknown, maybe a one hit wonder. Norvell, again no guarantees. Taggart, please meh. Strong ok yes but maybe he is not moving. Kiffin, never going to happen. So who is next? You guys remind of the fools that hit the lottery and bitch about the taxes.

I have to believe that they thought they were close. Had to be the worst job interview in history.

Helluva way to dance! Bottom line, I believe, was that he might have been "intrigued," but not really interested. Also heard it reported tonight that we gauged Frost's interest and it wasn't sufficient to enter into negotiations, so we moved to Plan C. Too much spy sh!t for me to digest!

Had Kelly said, "I want that job!" our AD would have immediately bit his own finger off and had Kelly sign with his blood. Kelly didn't want it so we "didn't offer."

I swear some people here make it damn hard to be Gator fans. Like I said earlier, I am not wildly excited at this hire, but given what is out there I'd just assume it be him if we can't get Kelly or Frost.

Some people seem to think that Mullen isn't smart enough not to run a 205 lb QB up the middle 25 times a game. I guess we shall see. When Leak was here, they only ran him occasionally. I recall them doing comparisons of him vs Alex Smith at Utah, and Leak's percentage of passes vs runs was higher than Alex Smith's. It is true, most of them were short passes. The offense under Leak was reasonably productive yardage wise, but my recollection sometimes got jammed up in the red zone (Having Tebow helped that). That was actually true under Zook too with Leak's prior short pass happy offense.

Did they use Leak optimally for his skill set? Probably not, but I'd say they adapted to his skills pretty well while maintaining their core scheme. I have no reason to think they won't adapt the scheme for "Matty Ice" and they won't run him up the middle a dozen times a game.

With Tebow, it wasn't uncommon to throw it down the field, often off of a play action. Now Tebow didn't throw it as often as Spurrier QB's, but his yards per attempt were above average of most of the QB's at the time as I recall.

Long term, will Mullen attract pro style or even some 190-210 lb dual threat QB's? Perhaps not, because they won't view his scheme as the matching their skills the best. But we will have to see.

And for those fans that are offended a 110 lb blonde wife of a coach said she changed her grocery shopping habits due to nagging fans, Jebus Christ grow a friggin pair. I honestly don't care what she says as long as we win games. And if there are actually fans giving the wife of a coach a hard time about sub par Saturday performances, I wouldn't blame the wife for calling them out. If nothing else, the fact that they have already experienced it, and are willing to come anyway, shows they know the drill.

And we wonder why a Chip Kelly or Scott Frost may not want to come here. But...But...TN is bad too!!!

All these board experts who know for a fact that Mullen is going to fail, and a few seem to be rooting for him and the Gators to fail. Years ago "experts" on here said they didn't want any part of Dabo Sweeney if he were available. Same for Kirby Smart. A few years ago people here were saying Rich-Rod was the answer.

I'm just going to let it play out. I don't know what is going to happen, but I am kind of happy for the change, if nothing else, and somewhat relieved that we got a respectable coach who gives us a chance to be respectable. At the end of the day he may suck, but I'll give him at least to the O/B game before I start throwing stones.

What do you know, an adult post.

It's a lie. We were negotiating a contract with language edits going back and forth for 5 days.

However, it is preferable for him to tell UCLA they were always his first choice and for us to pretend Cousin Eddie was ours.

Honestly man, Kelly needs to lay down on a leather sofa, weekly, and talk it out with a shrink. We dodged a bullet there.

No doubt. I have this image of our group walking in to Chip dressed in a kimono with Kabuki make-up on and holding a Chlhuahua. At that moment it became understood that he was a west coast kind of dude.

For 6 million a year, Florida fans will have every right to demand results in short order.

I can't believe we are paying this dude this much, much less paying him anything.
I might have to @GatorJ it and quit watching altogether

He got passed up for the job twice. He's motivated to show us how wrong we were.

Plus, big brother Nick Satan has been giving him annual toilet swirlies. He plans on stacking his cupboards and make a run at the Son-of-a-B!tch.

He isn't a strong recruiter, but there is no doubt in my mind he won't be as bad as Butterteeth.

Unless he leaves us on probation, he really can't make the roster worse.
