@RocketCityGator ...just saw Kelly on Sportcenter say that we didn't offer him the job! I can't begin to imagine what went on then when we flew the prez and contract speciálist up to see him. Don't think we'd have done that without feeling like we had a deal. As Lenon might have crooned.."Most peculiar, Mama!"

That jives with this report, which helps bring clarity to what's been going on behind the scenes.

Sources told ESPN's Mark Schlabach that Frost met with Florida officials more than a week ago to discuss the Gators' vacancy, but he declined to meet again this past weekend to advance those talks.

Contrary to the notion that Stricklin was dawdling away precious time with Kelly, we find out he was chasing both Kelly and Frost at the same time. It also calls into question in my mind whether Kelly was always the #1 target, but rather that Frost was likely the initial target until Kelly agreed to meet with the Florida delegation in New Hampshire -- a meeting described by Kelly as surprisingly persuasive -- and Frost declined to follow up.

He isn't a strong recruiter, but there is no doubt in my mind he won't be as bad as Butterteeth.

Unless he leaves us on probation, he really can't make the roster worse.

Again though, who is it that we would be waiting for worth that risk?

Is it also possible that Frost & Kelly spoke and compared notes...hey strick is telling us both the same things?

fvkk I don't even like driving thru there. i try to plan my gas stops to avoid it.
... me too, I always eat just before crossing their state line. What happens in Mississippi stays in Mississippi.

That's part of the gig. You pretend you didn't offer and they pretend they didn't turn you down. Hell, most of the time you pretend they didn't even interview you.
... yeah, it's the subjects of fake news you can't believe.

He's motivated to show us how wrong we were.
... as if GatChat wasn't in charge of that.

I swear some people here make it damn hard to be Gator fans. Like I said earlier, I am not wildly excited at this hire, but given what is out there I'd just assume it be him if we can't get Kelly or Frost.

Some people seem to think that Mullen isn't smart enough not to run a 205 lb QB up the middle 25 times a game. I guess we shall see. When Leak was here, they only ran him occasionally. I recall them doing comparisons of him vs Alex Smith at Utah, and Leak's percentage of passes vs runs was higher than Alex Smith's. It is true, most of them were short passes. The offense under Leak was reasonably productive yardage wise, but my recollection sometimes got jammed up in the red zone (Having Tebow helped that). That was actually true under Zook too with Leak's prior short pass happy offense.

Did they use Leak optimally for his skill set? Probably not, but I'd say they adapted to his skills pretty well while maintaining their core scheme. I have no reason to think they won't adapt the scheme for "Matty Ice" and they won't run him up the middle a dozen times a game.

With Tebow, it wasn't uncommon to throw it down the field, often off of a play action. Now Tebow didn't throw it as often as Spurrier QB's, but his yards per attempt were above average of most of the QB's at the time as I recall.

Long term, will Mullen attract pro style or even some 190-210 lb dual threat QB's? Perhaps not, because they won't view his scheme as the matching their skills the best. But we will have to see.

And for those fans that are offended a 110 lb blonde wife of a coach said she changed her grocery shopping habits due to nagging fans, Jebus Christ grow a friggin pair. I honestly don't care what she says as long as we win games. And if there are actually fans giving the wife of a coach a hard time about sub par Saturday performances, I wouldn't blame the wife for calling them out. If nothing else, the fact that they have already experienced it, and are willing to come anyway, shows they know the drill.

And we wonder why a Chip Kelly or Scott Frost may not want to come here. But...But...TN is bad too!!!

All these board experts who know for a fact that Mullen is going to fail, and a few seem to be rooting for him and the Gators to fail. Years ago "experts" on here said they didn't want any part of Dabo Sweeney if he were available. Same for Kirby Smart. A few years ago people here were saying Rich-Rod was the answer.

I'm just going to let it play out. I don't know what is going to happen, but I am kind of happy for the change, if nothing else, and somewhat relieved that we got a respectable coach who gives us a chance to be respectable. At the end of the day he may suck, but I'll give him at least to the O/B game before I start throwing stones.

I thought I'd go back and look at some of the experts. Let's see what they had to say about Dabo:

Wait...so you agree...lol. This is why I called our fans gutless. You won't stick by your guns. You'd rather go through the motions and then 2.5 years from now...you'll go "I guess I was wrong".

This is why we've had three awful hires in a row. Because most of you just bend over and take it.

Good lord you are a broken record.

Bitching and whining all the time like a little girl doesn't take guts.

I'm realistic. I think Mullen is a 50/50 hire. I have no idea how it will turn out. You can make a list of 10 good things or 10 bad things depending on the view you are trying to spin.

I like how even the most vociferous about our hire has calmed down some. Like Cover said, we didnt get a cover boy but we got someone with real upside and potential. I know I know, UF should not have to hire POTENTIAL. We did hire the guy that was a big part of two of our national titles. He is good with QBs and GOD KNOWS we need that in spades. Someone said they were 48 and did not have the patience or time to wait for another big winner.............:lmao:.................Dan knew the jimmies and joes that would come to Starkville would never match up with those in bama unless there was a warp in the space/time continuum. At Fla the ability to get that talent is there and always has been. As always I'm excited about the future. Optimism is imprinted on my brain. I get it from seeing so many smiling small faces all the time. You might call it "ignorance is bliss".......I call it perspective, hope and faith FOR F....L...O....R.....I.....D......A.........

I'm not sure if joining my board and then going out of your way to embarrass me is a good approach for you.

For those not in favor of Mullen's hiring do you think that Mullen believes 8--10 wins a year without championships will be acceptable at Florida? Do you believe that Mullen is aware (or not) that being paid like one of the top 5 coaches in the country comes with expectation to win titles? Or is he thinking that his relationship with Stricklin provides cover and he'll be ok as long as the Gators are more competitive than previous years?
