You're quickly becoming one of my favorite posters here. We've had some real duds here when it comes to coaches and their recruiting efforts. We shouldn't tie our staff to someone because of their son or someone they supposedly have a good relationship with.

Yeah, I'm sure a guy who was a 3 time Pro Bowl corner and coaches at a perennial football powerhouse has nothing of value to offer us as a defensive back coach. Glad you boneheads aren't making the decisions around here.

It's not a debate. It's you as a UF homer trying to claim we were once known as QBU similar to how we actually are referred to as DBU. The only difference is no one including other Gator fans ever called us QBU.

Honestly, when you say QBU only one school comes to virtually any college football fans mind, and everyone already knows what school that is. I'll give you a clue, it's in the same geographic location as where I live.

First of all, I’m not debating whether UF should be considered QBU. I’m not sure how people define QBU. QBs drafted? All Americans? What I CAN tell you is that before the chumpmac error, we had a great string of QBs who would light up a defense as good as anyone. Certainly more than 1 every 10 years.

Back to my original point... if you don’t know whether or not John freakin Reaves was good, then it is my opinion that you lack the necessary knowledge to make educated comments about the history of UF QBs.

Imagine this: in 20-30 years somebody, Gator or not, says Tebow was an average QB, “he was just a good runner.” You’d probably have the same opinion of that person that several older Gators have of you right now.

Great players don't always equal great coaches and great players don't always equal great recruiters.....Also just because someone coaches at a great program doesn't make them a great coach.....Mac, Champ ring a bell Butters boy????

The best corner on our team (marco) came from him, pretty polished too. He's got two 5 star corners in his team right now. I know i may be projecting here a little but he probably knows how to coach the position, he damn sure made alot of money playing it.

Look at art briles for an example. He jumped from the highschool ranks to d1 position coach. Its does happen. We're not talking about your average position coach. We're talking about a former pro bowler who comes with some studs.

Not only have I heard him, but I'm seeing whispers of possibly Tim Brewster for TEs and maybe Dameyune Craig as QBs......and apparently Zook is interested in coming back to warmer weather and even put out feelers last year to maybe come here for ST. Not sure on Knox.
That would be so fun to have the Ol' Zooker back in the Swamp.

Who gives a damn, get as many kids, fathers, coaches, pencil sharpeners who are dedicated to the craft of winning we can lure under roof. We need all the help we can get to disinfect the current lazy, detached, apathetic infected, mindset breeding for nearly a decade... thanks to some real loser adult role models purported to be leaders... just saying man, if it isn't breaking a rule... bring 'em.

You think it's a negative to bring in Surtain and you have no earthly idea whether or not the guy is a good coach. Do your research.

The list of former NFL players who became good coaches is very short.

There are many potential landmines associated with the interpersonal dynamics of having a position coach coaching his kid.
