La, I often agree with you, but...

What a stupid post. Jeff Driskel was a really good Gator that went through some garbage with rotating failures at OC under a way-to-conservative, 'pamper my defense' Muschamp and a fan base that was divided over him and Jacoby Brissett. Jeff did his best, didn't get in trouble, was tough, endured injury (along with the above) while being largely ridiculed by many of the fans.

Let's just celebrate Jones today and hope he has loads of success.

It was mostly a joke, you know, Driskel a famous white dork giving thumbs up on his scooter, Jones looking like a confident badass ready to take the reigns and prop the program back to where it belongs. But it's no joke that EJ is a much better prospect than JD ever was. Save this post if you want be he's a lot more like Cam, Dak, Tebow than Driskel, Brantley, Franks. Some guys have "it" and some don't. We just scored a guy who definitely does.

I was assuming that this was in sarcasm over the previous arguments.
Don't know if you know the history. RoPo played tight end in an all-star game and made a fantastic catch. As he failed to live up to his potential at
defensive end, I argued vigorously that he should be at TE to gales of laughter from the board. I still refuse to recant. So it's kind of a joke and kinda isn't

I know the history... for some reason I thought it was Alcoholica that had the ridiculous idea of moving RoPo to TE because of one catch... My apologies to Alcoholica... I shouldn't think that poorly of him.

I hope you're right and he has the 'it' factor. I'm rooting for him and hoping he has unprecedented success as a Gator.

...and...
1. Who cares what color he is.

2. Him looking like a dork is praise-worthy. It means that he's smart enough and secure enough to joke around and even be the butt of a joke. He clearly knows what his appearance is and is having fun with it. If you're just judging books by their cover, and looking for who is confident and ready, I still think JD's measurables are superior.

Like I said, I'm rooting for him, but I'm not going to use mocking a guy who was a good Gator to try to say the new (completely unproven) guy is better. Make fun of Winston (who he's being compared to), Blackman or another rival.

...now back to the party.

I used to pile on about him being a TE just to piss people off. So your memory probably isn’t too far off

This is from Tom Luginbill:

These numbers may shift up or down a bit, but not by hundreds. Let’s take a look.
  • In any given class, roughly 2,800 prospects will sign with FBS programs at the Group of 5 or Power 5 level. That is a signing number, not necessarily the number that will actually arrive on campus.
  • At this time, roughly 1,950 players and counting have signed their national letters of intent (70 percent of that 2,800), with more expected to come before the 72-hour signing window concludes Friday.
  • There are around 530 players who are verbally committed but who have not signed. That number will continue to decrease with players signing before Friday night, but not by hundreds.
  • So if we do the math, this leaves roughly 400 uncommitted available players still to sign with FBS programs come the first Wednesday in February.

So with 130 FBS teams in the mix, the player pool just turned into a puddle.

So what does all this mean for the next seven weeks? The dead period runs through January 10, 2018, so staffs can use the time partly to calculate their remaining numbers and needs as well as those of their competitors. Essentially the month of January is going to be like a bunch of FBS coaches sitting around a table playing poker, but with their cards are turned around and everyone seeing what the other is playing with.

Administrative/player personnel staffs are crunching numbers of their own roster and those of peer teams in and out of their conferences. Who signed who? Which players didn’t sign? Which verbally committed players are vulnerable to be flipped in January? Which verbally committed kid listened to the overture from another school and didn’t sign? The schools with the most available spots left must be particularly keen to this, as they need to make up the most ground.

In the Pac-12 for example, six of its 12 teams have either committed or signed 13 or fewer players. That number may rise a bit by the end of Friday, but it is clear the conference has work to do.

Of the states within the Pac-12 footprint, 283 players signed as of midday Thursday. However, only 155 of them signed with Pac-12 schools. There are around 550 uncommitted prospects in the ESPN database from the states with Pac-12 schools in their borders. The issue is that roughly only 100 or so of those players are Pac-12 caliber talents.

More from Luginbill:

Who’s left on the board?
Currently, there are still four five-star players committed but unsigned, according to ESPN.com’s rankings. On Friday, that number will drop to three as five-star wide receiver Terrace Marshall will make his announcement on ESPNU. There are 101 four-star, uncommitted players on the board. Could that number drop by the end of Friday? Sure, but probably not dramatically. These will be the most targeted prospects come January for the top 20-25 programs in the country.

Now, for those 500-plus verbally committed prospects referenced above who decided not to sign early, don’t for one second think they are wrapped up. If they didn’t sign, coaches are going to consider them fair game and recruit them incessantly in January.

The player pool has dwindled, boards are being streamlined and in-home visits/official visits by coaches are going to be critical to rounding out each and every class, but as I have outlined above, much of the Pac-12 and many others still have a lot of work to do with seven weeks to do it.

How did coaches in new jobs fare?
Not very well as a whole … yet. I do not believe any of these coaches should be judged during this 72-hour period, but among Power 5 schools with new hires, Florida made the single biggest pull by flipping and signing of quarterback Emory Jones, luring him away from Ohio State. Of the 11 new Power 5 hires, just 119 prospects were signed as of now, but that number is likely to rise. Oregon made a big dent with 20 prospects signed to date.

Perhaps most surprising were the results coming out of Tallahassee on Wednesday. Including the addition of athlete Jaiden Woodbey last night, Florida State signed four players overall with five others verbally committed, including five-star cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. Florida State, Nebraska and Tennessee can be expected to make the biggest splash during January. Tennessee has 16 players in its class, with 12 signed. Top-ranked in-state athlete Alontae Taylor is still listed as committed for the Vols.

Scott Frost quickly found himself a quarterback in Adrian Martinez and signed junior college running back Greg Bell, but Nebraska has 13 total players in the class, with 10 having signed Wednesday. Expect Nebraska to blanket the state of California in January.

It's going to be a feeding frenzy around these unsigned prospects for the next 6 weeks

Ole Miss coach, Matt Luke:

“I thought it was imperative that we sign a QB to come in and compete in the spring,” said Luke. “We’re able to do that with one of the top QBs in the country, Matt Corral. Tremendous, tremendous talent, and he’s going to be able to come in and compete in the spring.”

Ole Miss also signed FOUR DT's. Wow!

Here is the list of all 14 Wednesday signees for the Rebels:

  • Matt Corral, 4-star QB, Long Beach, CA

Ole Miss' Phil Longo OC raves about Corral:

https://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/o...-longo-raves-superstar-qb-signee-matt-corral/

“Big arm, mobile and likes to extend plays,” Longo reportedly said about the Long Beach, Calif. QB. “He’s gritty. He’s got a chip on his shoulder.

“If he were a big dude, he’d be a linebacker,” Longo added.”He’s got that kind of mind set. I just like that he likes to compete, and I like that he has an edge. He’s in attack mode all the time. I like that about him.”

The Rebels flipped Corral from Florida on Dec. 14. He is an early enrollee and will arrive in Oxford on Jan. 20, the report noted.

“You’re just adding another good character guy and another athlete. It obviously makes your room better,” Longo said.

“Anytime you put another bullet in your gun, you’re in good shape.”

Excellent post, Euro, particularly with regard to the part I've emphasized. I've never understood how grown men who couldn't even sniff the playing field will heap, ad nauseum, extreme vitriol upon a young man who is actually on the field trying to win. Add to that the fact that these grown men are Gator alumni and (supposed) Gator fans who are blasting a young man just a couple of years out of high school who is playing for the Gators. What the hell is wrong with the guys who do this? I'm talking about vitriol, not mere criticism. Driskel is only the target named in this thread, but there are many more. If a Gator alumnus and/or fan wants to tear into a college football player, do it to one on a rival team. Rapeis deserved it. Peyton Manning deserved it. I think Driskel did his best under terrible coaching. Nobody likes the results, but, as a good Gator, he ought to be spared the repeated disemboweling he's been getting for years, now.

Let dislikes begin! :lmao2:

The writer needs to be taken to task for calling Corrals switch to Ol Miss a flip

I know where you're coming from....but then we have to question any writer calling Jones commit to us a "flip".
Wrong. Both OSU and Bammer desperately wanted him. OSU gave up and signed a three-star and bammer is crying about maybe not getting any quarterback this go around. it's not like they let him go and signed a higher ranked quarterback.
