What's odd about Chiozza's winning shot is that no Mizzou defender came "flying-by" in block/foul attempt mode?

It is odd but that’s how outrageously good his instinct was.

It happened so fast I almost couldn’t digest what was happening. Three of them do immediately start down the court after him but there was no way they could close on him. Too much of a head start and he’s so fast with the ball. Stunning. Brilliant play.

I can spend a lot of time dissecting box scores. Love reading baseball boxes. But I didn't realize what a major factor Stone has become. 32 minutes. And Kevaughn started but played relatively little.

That link led to a couple of videos; watched the one with the crowd reaction over and over and just smiled. Some disappointed folks there.
The Mizzou bench reaction was priceless. They didn't know what had just happened.

I honestly think Cheez has taken his game to the next level. The announcers are not raving about him most game for no reason.
If you compare his stats from last to this year (and he has played some REAL competition without a good big man to help our game it is
impressive. the first # is last year the 2nd this year...............FG% 41% now 47% 3pt % 31% now 44% steals 1.3pg now 2.0 pg
assists pg 3.8 now 5.8 scoring pg 7.2 to 13.1 reb pg 3.3 to 4.7....................He plays a lot of minutes and has quite a few games with lots of assists with no TOs. oh yeah his FT % has gone from 79% to 90%.............I watch most of the games and have seen most of his career games. He has stepped up this year in a huge way to me. Egbunu's absence is tough and Egor has taken some bad shots that hurt us. I dont think Kevaughn Allen has taken his new role well with Egor and Hudson on the floor. I wish he could adjust to them and play better.

Chiozza's turn around from year 1 and 2 is stunning. He was awful those year and I bagged on him a lot. Now, he is a really solid PG. The best part of his game though is his rebounding. 5 boards a game for a 5'10 PG is outstanding.

You have to give CREDIT to Coach Mike White for helping to DEVELOP Chiozza and also this team. He has coached up this team once their deficiencies were exploited and has gotten them in the right positions to have success on the court and WIN games. Our guys have turned up the defensive pressure and that is COACHING. Allen yesterday got into foul trouble and just couldn't get into the flow of the game. Hudson stepped in and played really well so White rode the hot hand with Hudson there. COACHING. Our guys played tough on the road and actually made 10 of 11 free throws down the stretch to keep them in the game. 3-0 in the SEC much to the chagrin of the Haters and Complainers who gave up on this team in December. Go Gators!!

The UF bench reaction is pretty great too. They do a good job of containing themselves with the .1 left on the clock and do not blow a great ending.

BTW, after all the late clock shot shots they slopped in, I fully expected the three-quarter court shot to go in, but I doubted he got it off in time. And it was pretty much on line.

This to me is at least partly a fuction of Hayes' lack of thickness. He and Gak are so lean it is easier to block their shot without getting body.

Hayes came in barely 200 lbs. They got him up to around 218. They need to get him to 235-240. He can handle the weight with his frame and athleticism.

He does get pushed around too much. He is a high energy guy but has bad hands. He averages about the same amount of rebounds as Chiozza and that is unacceptable. Good defender and great shot blocker. He is nearly always wide open on the pick and roll but rarely receives the ball....maybe because of lack of confidence in his hands?

I bagged on Kasey Hill for years but really grew to appreciate his contributions - especially grit, defense & leadership - last year. He just wasn’t a shooter. And honestly, we are missing him thus far. But Chiozza is bringing it and this team has a chance to round into great shape by March.

Agree about Hill. He was limited offensively, but didn't shy away. He was an elite locker down defender which he didnt get enough credit for.

Funny, I took him to be talking about Wilbekin and wondered what he meant. I view the Chiozza and Wilbekin stories as quite similar. Both were probably better than guys they were playing behind, Wilbekin maybe from the day he arrived at UF and Chiozza maybe after a year. But coaches must worry about team chemistry and in Chiozza's situation how benching a recruit like Hill would affect future recruiting particularly for a new high major coach like White.

I thought an announcer referenced it was well during the broadcast.

I can not really stand to listen to broadcasts much these days. I know more about UF and UF players than the announcers and there is only so often I can listen to the Koulechov or Hudson story.

I know rankings don't mean a damn thing in college basketball, but we should be back in the top 25 next week. It was an absolute bloodbath of ranked teams losing all week and we won two tough road games.
We got zero votes from AP last week and one vote on the Coaches Poll, so we're currently sitting around #40, rankings wise. I doubt we jump 15+ spots in one week. But if you're hairy, I guess you can hope. :bart:

Some of these announcers these days are really bad. They try too hard to be entertaining at the expense of just calling the game.

While I’m at it I will also state that the introduction and increased use of sideline reporters is the worst idea in sports reporting history. I hate them all and I’m a positive dude. I can’t stand listening to them and it only gets worse when they start interviewing someone as the game is live right behind them. Total distraction.

Well, we jumped to 27 in the AP and 28 in the coaches poll. That’s a pretty big jump from around 40ish last week. Take care of business this week vs. the two Mississippi schools and we should easily crack the polls.
