Jawga IS the new SEC beast. Smart can coach and recruit with the best.

You can certainly see the money paying off on the recruiting trail, but game isn't over yet. Kirby is winning with Richt's players because he can run the ball really well. He has positioned himself well by recruiting great OL and DL and that will be a problem, but if he starts losing big games then things could fall apart on him.

I think using the last 16 years is a huge mistake. Just MHO. Recruiting is the lifeblood of any sustained success in CFB.

They have never recruited like they are currently. Richt ON RIVALS had THREE top 5 recruiting classes. Three in how many years? FIFTEEN. Smart has TWO already in three years and is building a machine. That third year? 9th. A top ten transition class. WTF? They aren't recruiting decent anymore. They are recruiting ELITE.

Sticking your head in the sand is a mistake.(not saying you are)
Totally agree. The past regimes are not a good indicator of how this cat is doing things, and based on what he's shown so far he is knocking the bottom out of that thing.

If that article was about Mullen and UF we'd be going nuts on here.

I am not conceding anything to the Butt Sniffers. They had a great season in the SEC East where everything fell into place and they played an over-rated Auburn in the SEC CG. Even if they win it all this year, they will need to string 4 or 5 similar seasons together before they are anywhere near Alabama's aura.

Have you seen his incoming class? SIX five stars. He's reloading. I'm not saying run around like the sky is falling but it would be dangerous to ignore what's happening in Athens.
I know it's a long way from 2019 signing day but they already have 3 players in the top 10 for that class. The top 2 Wr's and the #1 DE. They are going to be nasty in about 2 years. I think if it stays like it is I think they will do better than what Bama has done over the last 6 years.

The one thing Bama has struggled to get was a Qb, UGA has them for days to go along with Rbs for days and if the 2 5* Wrs come in and live up to their ranking it's gonna be very tough to stop on offense.

UGA has played well this year and they look like they are buying into Kirby's system but they will get a fresh dose of reality next year.

They are losing their RT - leading WR - starting TE - FB & both RBs. I know they have other RBs and two of the top recruits coming in but playing RB in the SEC is more than just running the ball. Being able to pick up a blitz is just as importatnt.

They also have 7 seniors on defense to go along with Roquin Smith. I see 8-10 guys leaving on defense.

They have a ton of talent coming in, no doubt. But I wonder about how things will evolve at QB. If Kirby truly uses the Saban template, he'll be expecting more of a game management role for his QBs. I mean, yeah, if a kid wants to win a NC that's great, but if he wants to make it to the show...not so much. Having three studs in the fold now and perhaps not asking them to outright win games might effect their recruiting down the road. They're the hot ticket for now. For now.

There's a lot of whistling past the graveyard in this thread.

The title of the thread leaves open the opportunity for smartass comments throughout the thread, especially after they blew it last night (and THEY blew it, make no mistake - this game was UGA's to win or lose and they crapped the bed).

For those that just did a drive-by to make a smartass comment, go to the OP and read the article. If you're not convinced that Kirby has found - and IMPROVED - Saban's blueprint you are probably the same fan that thought Butters had us heading in the right direction....and Muschamp before him....and you were upset when Zook got fired.

Mullen has his work cut out for him plain and simple. You can whistle past the graveyard all you want, like many did (turning a blind eye) w/ McElwain. But this is a total rebuild and we DO NOT have the roster that Mark Richt left Kirby Smart or that Ron Zook left Urban Meyer.

good post and very true. The dawgs are going to be a problem for the forseeable future until mullen has us stocked similarly

Doesn't mean you should be less critical of the conclusion.... Kirby has been there two years.

All that was set up upon Kirby's arrival. Right out of the gate. If Mullen did something similar I will be jumping for joy. Six 5 stars? That's nuts. Since Mullen has trouble beating more talented teams...Mullen is going to have to out-recruit Smart sooner than later. It is fact.

We don't know what we have in Mullen other than he is a guy with a losing SEC record and can't consistently beat teams with equal or better talent (sound familiar to the last two hires). He does know how to run an organization (unlike the last two hires). Kirby has had one great season, and one ok season. Now some people including some people on this board are nutting themselves all over themselves about him (same people who called Jimbo an offensive genius). But as he has shown he has a very Muschampian offensive philosophy. UGA was recruiting well when he took over and so far it appears he has given it a bump (two completed classes 9th and 3rd and one that could be #1). Having talent is part of the equation, coaching is the other part. What have you seen from an offensive or defensive side that says they will be this great dynasty?

Talent. Pure sheer unadulterated talent. So he didn't beat Saban. What's that list look like? Our guy never beat him in 9 tries. Just because he didn't beat the greatest coach in the modern era in OT, doesn't mean he isn't building something. I guess we'll find out in year 3, eh?
