In 13 seasons under Sherrill MSU finished first in the West once....and went to Atlanta once. Once....not "a few times".

Finished second twice.
And the West absolutely sucked back then.

Put down the peyote. For two years at Ole Miss, yes, but not the majority of the 9 years.

Since Mullen was hired there Ole Miss/Arkansas has recruited better. 2/9 years has Miss St recruited better.

We knock Mullen's recruiting and that's a valid concern but it's not the point of this argument. Arkansas also had Petrino and was in SEC Championship game and contention along with BCS bowls...so that argument is really valid.

@ThomasGoldkamp: By my count, including Dan Mullen, #Gators coaching staff has 82 combined years experience in the SEC at the GA/assistant coach level.

Jackie Sherrill in his prime competed for the west every year, finished first or tied first a few times and went to Atlanta.

He played long before the practice of playing half you schedule vs Div2/ cupcake teams became the thing at Starkvegas. Mullinz managed 4 of those per year plus 1 against Kintucky really propped up Mullinz record, such as it is. Of Mullinz 69 wins, 54 are against directional teams or Kintucky.

Sherrill did stay too long though.

Sherrill's west was not Mullin's west. You've got to admit that. For much of Sherrill's time there LSU and Ole Miss were basically DOA with Arkansas occasionally having a pulse. I can't give you firm records on all of them, but you did not have the consistent top to bottom quality in the west that you had for much of Mullin's time.

As expected Ron English is officially the 10th coach. Safeties.

Former DC at Meatchikin, Screwyville, and HC at Directional Meatchikin.

Nice hire, who already knows the playbook and many SE recruits.

Clowntown and others were trying to woo him away.
