We “won” the East twice with Butter Snatch I was still embarassed as hell.

Winning the East is watered down as its ever been. We have some nice trophies though and I'm sure somebody on here has one of those back-to-back East t shirts.

Winning the SEC is embarrassing?

WTF? Blurred lines.

I want to be embarrassed please.

It's an exaggeration obviously, but his point is valid. A perfect combination of stars returning, rivals being down, zero impact injuries(almost unheard of) and getting to play the second best team from the West in a rematch...and coming up short of it all against probably Saban's worst overall Alabama team. As I said in my response to Mr2ndPlace, it's still a great season, no doubt. But they had a shot to win the whole thing and blew it. That tarnishes things.

And in no way am I comparing their season to our '15 season, but do you know who the 2nd best West team was in 2015? The team we destroyed at home a few months earlier. So to Capital's point, had OM not allowed a miracle 4th and forever play against Ark, we would've had a rematch with them and probably beaten them in Atl. Still wouldn't exactly make that year special. It would've been circumstances falling perfectly in our favor.

I credit Smart and Co for a solid season. But I can still find humor in them losing Monday, especially the way they did.

Any dwag would be proud of a season like that - haven't been to the SECCG in 5 yrs, haven't won it in over a decade. Yeah, there is a little bit of 'got lucky' with the things you outlined, but they played who was scheduled and beat them for the most part and won enough to get to the NC. There is an air of got lucky, but anyone reaching the NC has that somewhere along the way. More than that, there is a sense of stepping beyond Richt mediocrity and potential to remain elite.

As a Gator, though, I'm with you. Enjoying the loss to AL in the NC, and knowing Smart can't get that lucky all the time. We can hope that this boosts UGA fan support for him and that he starts stumbling the next few seasons (injuries that were due this season show up next, Georgia starts to Georgia a few games away, etc) and he remains a little better than Richt but still keeps UGA as UGA. Thereby, ensuring he stays longer than Richt but continues to lose to us and 1-3 others every season.

I don't know if it's been pointed out already, but between the Falcon's SB implosion and this UGA choke, I would imagine that drug use is spiking in GA.

Are you kidding? They made it to the Superbowl and lost a close game to the Belichick and the Patriots. I'm sure they are just brimming with pride and have never been so honored to blow a second half lead.

You won the SEC, so you won't get any argument from me that you have some things of which to be proud. But in terms of it being some monumental year, that's crazy. You had the unlikely scenario of two ridiculous backs and several defensive players electing to return(credit to Smart for that) giving your freshman QB a huge base to build from. Similar to our '06 team, you had a solid group of experienced upperclassmen inherited from a previous staff, combined with a few highly talented younger guys that provided a needed spark. You had your two chief East rivals in shambles, one of whom you caught with a lame-duck head coach. You were blown out by your oldest SEC rival, and then ultimately needed them to do you a favor a few weeks later to help you win an SEC title that Monday showed you wouldn't have otherwise.

Sure years like '94 and '01 were fun for us, and there are things from those season that are fond memories. But you won't ever hear a Gator describing them in the words you used above. I think that's really the difference.

soflagator, I agree with you. However, once they recover mentally, I feel sure they will somehow blame Coach Richt for this loss. But, it appears the current GA coach can't win the big one either.
