At work today there was a discussion of a coworker named Igor. Naturally, that led me to say I thought it was pronounced eye-gor. I then had to explain Young Frankenstein to a 24 year old. Thankfully, he knew of Gene Wilder, but only from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and thus began a discussion of Gene Wilder’s best movies. I went Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles and then Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. What about you guys?

Young Frankenstein first, and Blazing Saddles second, absolutely! No complaints with Willy Wonka at 3rd, but I'm thinking The Frisco Kid or The Producers instead, certainly for comedic content.

Nice change-of-pace thread topic, btw.

I always enjoyed his movies with Richard Pryor...caught the end of Hear No Evil, See No Evil a few months ago and still laughed.

Are we talking Gene Wilder or Johnny Depp?

As for Gene... You've named some great ones. Don't forget Haunter Honeymoon, The Woman in Red, Silver Streak and The Adventure of Sherlock Holmes' Smarter Brother.

Fixed it. But this is also why I ask, because I knew some of you would give me some good ones I haven’t seen.

IMO, you hit the top three out of the gate - Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles, and Willie Wonka. I have trouble ranking them, tbh. Gut reaction would be to put BS first because I always love that movie, but then I want to give credit to the evil side in WW. Then I realize I simply haven't watched YF recently enough and it had great scenes as well. Really, all three are top three in my mind.

The work with Richard Pryor was great most times, so-so at times as well, though. The Hear No Evil See No Evil has some tremendous situational humor given their handicaps, but I almost want to put the movies from them as a duo in a separate category. To me, they weren't as good, and they were built on two-person talent. Yes, YF had a great cast so the same 'not his film alone' exists, but he really made WW what it was. I suppose the same 'not his film alone' carries for BS in that he was more supporting of the lead rather than being a lead.

Great topic.

Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles, Hear no Evil See no Evil my top 3. He was perfect for Willie Wonka, I just didn't care for the movie as much.

Willy Wonka is just one of those movies from my childhood that has that nostalgia factor to it. It’s not “traditional” Gene Wilder, but he’s just so perfect in it.

I think Rifftrax w/Neil Patrick Harris captured the entirety of the "wtf?!?" of my childhood from this scene:

Still want to go for a roll-in-the-hay with Teri Garr........

It looks as though she's equipped to do a lot of rolling.

Was watching Chitty Chitty Bang Bang last night... the “walk this way” scene from Young Frankenstein was totally lifted from CCBB... never noticed it before.

You ever think that Willy Wonka knew who he was going to give the chocolate factory to based on the interaction “Slugworth” had with them and all the candy in the initial wonderland was laced with drugs so nothing after that happened until Charlie and his grandfather are escorted to his office and told Charlie gets the factory? Everything else was just an acid trip.

I never considered that angle before, but now that you mention it that does make a lot of sense. Your scenario begs the question, however, if the oompa loompas are real or not. Also, childhood me would be sad at the thought of Wonka's Fizzy Lifting Drink not being a real thing.

Your response kinda reminds me of the time I asked a girl I knew if she thought the movie Dirty Dancing was just Baby telling the story of her first love and she and Johnny never saw each other again after that Summer. You should have seen her face. She was so mad because I blew her mind and she had to question everything she thought she knew. :lmao2:

Then what would the Schnozzberries really taste like?

Well, that’s a silly question. The snozberries are real as they came before the “candy land”. And they taste like snozberries.
