Am I the only person on GC who isn't particularly concerned about Mullen hiring guys he knows?
-If he KNOWS their work ethic and expertise are both excellent it makes sense
-If they are already indoctrinated into Mullen's processes and game philosophy it makes sense
-If he TRUSTS them to do the right thing, recruit hard (as has been evidenced so far) it makes sense
-If there is known success on their part (both individually and as a part of the coaching team) it makes sense
I know some of y'all are concerned about game philosophy stagnation and apparently a need to "cross-pollinate coaching staffs in order to get new ideas" involved, but hey...let's be real. It's CDM's team now. It's his philosophy and methods (much to the chagrin of some of you). Why in the bloody hell would we expect him to bring in a certain name (say, Charlie Weis, Zook, etc) at the risk of the coaching staff not working lock-step in the same direction?
NOT pumping here. I'd have said the same thing about any new HBC (including Butters...his core philosophy was more at fault than his picks for assistants).
Now, if these guys can't handle the hard recruiting requirements of working at UF, get 'em gone. Until then...hire away.
