Anyone else find it extremely odd that Kelly kept FOUR offensive assistants from UCLA's previous staff? You'd think he'd want "his" guys, as an offensive minded coach.

He’s lazy?

FSU: Maryland offensive coordinator Walt Bell is reportedly set to be named to the same position at Florida State and will also serve as the Seminoles' quarterbacks coach.

Bell spent the last two seasons as the offensive coordinator at Maryland. The Terrapins struggled throughout their 4-8 season, scoring just 24.1 points per game and 116th nationally in passing yards and 77th in rushing.

Bell's hiring comes more than a month after Taggart was hired at Florida State, leaving Oregon after just one season. The slow-moving process with Taggart's assistant coaching staff was odd, but there seemed to be a growing consensus Florida State was simply waiting out Alabama's season. Multiple reports, including one from ESPN's Adam Rittenberg, pegged Alabama's Mike Locksley as the next Seminoles offensive coordinator.

:lmao2: That worked well. The parallels between Butters and Taggart are so much fun to watch.

At Memphis, Michalowski recruited the Kansas JUCOs, Maryland and the Chicago area, and he worked with newly-hired LBs coach Dan Lanning, who Smart hired to replace the departed Kevin Sherrer. Prior to joining Memphis’ staff, Michalowski served as the DC at Garden City Community College.

Louisiana's governor thinks there should be a salary cap for coaches salaries. Aren't most of the salaries paid for by the UAA's (which are private corporations)?

Should college coaching staffs have salary caps? Louisiana's Governor thinks so

https://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/l...taffs-salary-caps-louisianas-governor-thinks/

LSU currently leads the nation in assistant salary pool, something that Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards apparently doesn’t take pride in.

Edwards recently spoke out against the escalating price tag that comes with a college coaching staff in today’s world of college football. The Tigers raised eyebrows this offseason by announcing a four-year, $10 million guaranteed contract for defensive coordinator Dave Aranda. That figure represents the most guaranteed money ever pledged to an assistant coach in college football.

According to Ross Dellenger of The Advocate, Edwards wants to see a cap put on salary pool allotted to college coaching staffs.

“I do think that there has to be some look nationally at some sort of salary caps for the organizations,” Edwards said. “This is an arms race, and it’s gotten out of control. Some of the salaries and buyouts are obscene, and they can create all sorts of problems.”

It’s important to note that Louisiana’s tax dollars are not used to pay the salary of the LSU coaching staff. The school’s athletic department raises the funds privately. According to Dellenger, LSU paid out $9.4 million to coaches in the last year, including buyout money for recently dismissed coaches Les Miles and Matt Canada.

Edwards is well aware that the taxpayer isn’t footing the bill for LSU but is concerned with the image these salary figures have on the public. Louisiana has been facing a crisis of sorts in recent years when it comes to public funding.

How that’s LSU’s issue remains to be seen but until a mandatory cap is put into place for every school, you can be sure that the SEC will be the last football conference to place any limit on the compensation its coaches receiving.

This is surprising. Nick has protected Bobby for years, even moving/keeping him after he didn't want him coaching anymore. Maybe Nick called in a favor from Cristobal?

Report: Nick Saban's long-time assistant, right-hand man Bobby Williams leaving for new job

https://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/a...ight-hand-man-bobby-williams-leaving-new-job/

Alabama’s staff is still undergoing changes.

OregonLive.com is reporting that Oregon has hired Nick Saban’s right-hand man Bobby Williams. Williams has served in a number of different capacities for Saban during his tenure, including both on-field and off-field coaching roles. Most recently, Williams served as Saban’s special assistant in 2017.

Williams has been with Saban since his Michigan State days, and he’s leaving for a job to join former Alabama staffer Mario Cristobal, who is now the head coach at Oregon. Williams is set to become the Ducks’ TEs coach, moving back to an on-field coaching role.

When Saban left Michigan State for LSU, Williams took over the head coaching job and was fired after three seasons. He then followed Saban to LSU, the Miami Dolphins and Alabama.

Alabama’s staff will look a lot different in 2018. DC Jeremy Pruitt left for Tennessee, and DBs coach Derrick Ansley left for the Raiders. OC Brian Daboll also went back to the NFL to become a coordinator with the Bills. Alabama hired WRs coach Josh Gattis, DBs coach Karl Scott and defensive assistant Pete Golding this off-season. Saban also promoted Mike Locksley to full-time OC, while reports surfaced Thursday that the Tide will add former Arkansas OC Dan Enos as its next QBs coach.

Michigan State: Head coach Mark Dantonio denied any rumors that he will step down and denied mishandling of sexual assault cases.

LSU: Offensive coordinator Steve Ensminger will earn $800,000 annually on a two-year deal, according to The Advocate. Other contracts include a two-year deal worth $475,000 annually for offensive line coach James Cregg, a two-year deal worth $375,000 annually for special teams coordinator Greg McMahon and a one-year deal worth $450,000 for pass game coordinator Jerry Sullivan. Defensive coordinator Dave Aranda’s deal is fourth years worth $2.5 million annually, as previously reported, and The Advocate reports Aranda’s buyout owed would be nothing if he leaves for a head coaching job or any job in the NFL.

I don't think this is over for him. MSU has a very dark cloud over it right now and there's going to be enormous pressure on him. If it is true that Dantonio had a players mom speak to him about his behavior and involvement with a sexual assault incident...no way he survives. I'll have his mom talk to him? WTF? That head has to roll at that point if verified as true.

Louisville: Brian VanGorder is the new defensive coordinator for the Louisville football team. Bobby Petrino confirmed the news during an interview on Howie Lindsey’s “Louisville First” show on 790-KRD Monday morning. VanGorder, 58, spent the past season as an assistant at Oklahoma State. He was the defensive coordinator at Notre Dame in 2015, but was fired by head coach Brian Kelly just four games into the 2016 season. There is some history here, as VanGorder was the linebackers coach for the Atlanta Falcons during Petrino’s one-year stint in the NFL in 2007. In all, VanGorder has spent 37 seasons as a coach and has been with 10 different college programs.
