How do I remember this game? I remember it for how physical it was and for how much our defensive front of Mickell, Culpepper, McCoy and Thomas beat the crap out of Casey Weldon and that he actually walked off the field under his own power. It was that bad, honest.

Oh, man, were those meetings with the Noles fun.

How's this for a fancy boxscore? It's all I could find. We freaking stuffed the run.

I was at that game. Cold day from what I remember. It was a tense chess match, two heavy weights slamming into each other. Great win for us that day....and we needed it. The rivalry was already headed in the wrong direction, even after getting our asses kicked in Tallahassee Spurrier's first year (I was at that game too). Unfortunately, we wouldn't beat them again until the 1995 season. When Spurrier arrived in Gainesville FSU had only beaten UF 9 times ever....Spurrier lost to them 8 times.

Maybe the most intense game I ever witnessed in person, beginning to end. And I’ve seen a lot of them.

I’ve had the pleasure of discussing that game in person with both starting QBs. Weldon proved his manhood but Matthews took a helluva beating too.

I still have the orange towel they gave us to wave. Our marching orders were to stop the chop.

Great game. Just GREAT.

Alex.

You never felt like a lead was safe with them. They had great athletes. So did we. Darren Mickell was a one-man wrecking crew in the fourth quarter. He made a living in the FSU backfield. I'll bet if you asked Weldon today, he would tell you he still has nightmares about Mickell chasing him.

I remember that last play was as loud as I have heard in the swamp. Batted down pass to that white boy whose family sold mobile homes in Lake City.

Probably the most bizarre stat ever regarding SOS. But give me this. They played in that weak fckn acc and would have us and Miami to get up for. While we had Aub, Tenn,. UGA LSU bama off and on and them at the end.............they basically had 5 open dates to prepare for UF.
and had the fckn gall to say we ducked scUM. Jeezus Christ we played a murders row each year. Miami needed us not the other way around. Up to me we woulda played UM two years and then haffazzzu two years.

You had two of the best offenses in the country squaring off. Neither team made it to 20. Fans say they like scoring. That afternoon was college football at its best, two very good teams dealing one crushing hit after another. As physical a game as you'll ever see.

One of my all time favorite games.

I think the best part was they had 1st and goal at the 3 and ended up with NOTHING. (2:17:30 in that video at the top)

Not to mention scUM spent the decade on probation and Clown Town soaked up their talent too.

I was in the student section. FSUx was going in for the winning score late in the fourth quarter. Tense and loud as possible. I was fairly certain I had an out of body experience as that last pass floated incomplete. Tony McCoy, Culpepper and Co. stuffed those greasy Noles, and we set our clocks on 14 minutes to 9 for the rest of the year.

Immediately after the game, we were on the lowest level celebrating with the players. Tony McCoy comes over, and we pound on his helmet and shoulder pads. Later on the evening news, we spot ourselves celebrating with the players. What a game! What a memory. That game hooked me to football like a junkie to smack.

Exactly. it was like slow motion I swear and head ringing vibrating loud. For some reason I was on the west side at that end (north).

I was a 11, and fortunate enough to be on the sidelines for that game. Incredible game. The two moments that I remember vividly are Amp Lee racing down the sideline a few feet from me, and the final pass being batted down. If I recall correctly, it was either Dell Speer or Will white. Epic finish and we were on top of the world the rest of the night.

I was at Disney World that day. I remember we were in line waiting for some ride, and some guy in front of us had a handheld radio where he was able to get the score of the game. Very excited to hear the good guys won. That's the first football game I remember hearing about, I was 7 at the time.

I remember their All-Salon linebacker Kirk Carruthers running his mouth even after they lost. Whiny little b!tch saying they may not have won on the scoreboard but they beat us physically. Ask Weldon about that.

They couldn’t block Darren Mickell in that game. He was a beast.

The fans had lost to FSU 4years in a row. Thanks to probation, the longest losing streak ever against them (at the time). We were on a mission. It had national championship intensity. I was physically spent after that game. Completely exhausted.

Alex.

I had a poster from that game of Casey Weldon getting leveled by Mickell. Nasty hit.
Anyway a week or two later Weldon speaks at our Wednesday church youth group and I brought it for him to sign. He was all smiles until I unrolled it and he saw what it was. He refused to sign it!

This is literally the first football game i ever attended. I just turned 7yrs old. My older brother took me. Pretty good game to start out my gator fandom. We sat next to two fsu fans on the SW side. I basically told them to take a hike after the game. I remember my brother telling me i should be polite.

I was working concession that game for my school, got to slip out every now and then. I got a chance to see the goal line stand from right on the line of the goal about 15 rows up.
