Will Ole Miss go after Mike White? Do you care if they do?

Looks like Ole Miss and Andy Kennedy are going to "part ways". I won't be surprised at all to see them at least take a stab at Mike White. It would be a huge mistake for him if he were to go to Ole Miss. I know he played there, but UF is a significantly better job.

Would you be upset if he did go?

I personally have mixed feelings. I want to give him a chance to really build something and he has had moments, but I am not sure he is a superstar coach. Then there is the dream of him leaving and Billy D getting fired or choosing to leave OKC to come back to the Gators!

No, but he can't be any more successful at Ole Piss that UF. In fact, probably less.

He will likely be there first call. I like Coach White and think he could be a very successful program at UF. It would be a strong lure back to Ole Miss where his wife went to school as well. Should be very interesting.

Well:

1. Whether I care depends on how UF finishes this season. I would hate to lose a coach that made the NCAAs two of his first 3 seasons and had a nice run in the NCAAs one season. I would be less unhappy to lose a coach who missed the NCAAs two of his first 3 seasons.

2. I think Mississippi gives him a courtesy call, but he has bigger ambitions. These ambitions are more possible from UF than from Mississippi. Then again I am only guessing about his ambitions as I do not know him.

It looks like they are catching their second wind this season. The defense is picking up. Pretty good job for zero inside presence.

From the official Ole Miss Men's Basketball website:

Eleven postseason wins, eight postseason berths, nine 20-win seasons, two NCAA Tournament appearances, two NIT Final Fours, two SEC West titles and an SEC Tournament Championship later, the two-time SEC Coach of the Year has cemented his name throughout the Rebel record book as the winningest coach in school history.

Not only has Kennedy left his mark on Ole Miss, but the college basketball in the SEC. Some notable accomplishments by Kennedy as a head coach include:

  • Fourth-most wins in SEC history by a coach in his first 11 years in the league at one school (234)
  • One of five coaches in SEC history to post at least nine 20-win seasons in first 11 years in the league, joining Billy Donovan (Florida), Joe B. Hall (Kentucky), Nolan Richardson (Arkansas) and Tubby Smith (Kentucky)
  • Only coach in SEC history to post 11 consecutive winning seasons after taking over a program coming off four straight losing seasons
  • One of eight active head coaches with 12 or more consecutive winning seasons to start career: Jim Boeheim (41), Roy Williams (29), Tom Izzo (22), Mark Few (18), Jamie Dixon (14), Sean Miller (13), Andy Kennedy (12), Dave Rose (12)

How does Ole Miss think they are going to find anyone that could do any better for their program than AK?

I agree that he will be their first call. He is an alumni and has had some level of success in the SEC. I hope that he recognizes the difference between Ole Miss and UF, but if not I don't think he is irreplaceable. He hasn't shown the ability to recruit elite big men and that issue will continue to create problems if it isn't fixed. I also don't feel like he has much of a half court offense, but I do think he could get there.

Don’t be dissing Gak & Hayes like that. Ask South Carolina about our inside game.

I don't disagree with you at all. I am just hoping he is always learning and evolving.

Exactly, he has the connections to go to a basketball centric program like UK, Duke, UNC etc if he plays his cards right and has good success at UF. Mississippi is a football centric athletic department with limit resources.

His Dad is AD at Duke... I don't think he can go there until Daddy retires.. besides Duke already has their next coach on staff.

If he actually wants to go there I would be OK with it. I would prefer he stay, but if he goes we need to get a run at our former coach.
