I've never mentioned this before on the board, but I have a good friend who worked in the football office for years under Spurrier. She was very close with him and the family and spent plenty of time with them outside the office over the years. I can't divulge what she told me about the whole foley fiasco because for years she would never say anything when questioned but about 3 years ago she opened up to me about it under the strict pretense that I never reveal a word of what she said.

So... I can't provide anything of substance, and for that reason feel free to disregard if you so desire, but what I can say is that the information she revealed about foley and his actions regarding Spurrier and the HC job were pretty shocking. There's a big part of behind the scenes foley that noone here knows about and that would shock even the most died in the wool foley bashers. Bottom line, foley was one supremely arrogant, narcissistic POS to the point of mortally damaging the football program just to spite SOS. To this day, my friend is so disgusted with foley, she won't even say his name.

If she's disgusted to the point of no longer saying his name, she probably wouldn't mind you throwing the bastard under the bus...

Can't do it. Gave my word. But I think we all have the right idea now about foley, this story notwithstanding.

Of the Muschamp era, I bet plenty noticed this : 1) Our first string runners faltered 2) sophomore Gillislie was sent in on a "give up" 3rd and 8 and he tore thru for better gain after gain 3) then they disappeared him back on the bench 4) that continued thru his junior year. 5) lo & behold he got to star his senior year ??? Gillie's still in the NFL I think.

@ThomasGoldkamp: Your casual reminder that Will Muschamp and Florida finished No. 3 in the final BCS standings in 2012.

Would have played for a national title.

I’m always impressed with the many folks here who have inside sources or sources close to the inside. It’s one of the reason I hang around here. There’s typically good info being shared. I’ve never claimed to have much in the way of inside sources myself other than some of the South Florida kids I know personally and even then my relationship with most of them is more distant. However....back in the day...on the old board....I got into some fairly serious arguments on how the whole Urban Meyer hire went down and what transpired concerning SOS’s interest in returning. I got information from a very credible source on this occasion. Although the board could not be convinced otherwise ....it is true that SOS would have been our coach again had certain folks not prevented it. It didn’t take much for Machen to pull the trigger. Now Urban obviously did a tremendous job for his 6 years (or most of them) but I would have preferred SOS for 12. SOS was a Gator and Urbs was a carpetbagger. Steve’s continuity would have kept the Gator brand alive. It is truly a shame.
Completely disagree, I’ll take the 2 titles
