This is from December (he didn't waste much time getting his home on the market):

New Florida Gators Coach Dan Mullen Selling Starkville Mansion

https://www.realtor.com/news/celebrity-real-estate/dan-mullen-selling-starkville-mansion/

Dan Mullen is headed back to Florida as the new University of Florida Gators head football coach, and he's placed his Starkville, MS, home on the market for $1,350,000.

Mullen had served as head coach for Mississippi State for nine seasons before making his way back to Gainesville, and now the new Gators boss has no need for a luxury home in the middle of Mississippi.

Custom-built in 2008, the 9,400-square-foot house has five bedrooms, five baths, and three half-baths. The layout includes a grand entry, formal living room, dining room, and chef’s kitchen with pantry, island, and breakfast area—all with views of the backyard.

There are two living areas, each with a fireplace and high ceiling; front and rear staircases; and an elevator. All the bedrooms are en suite.

The home comes with some great hangout areas, including a game room, media room, gym, and second kitchen. Outdoors there’s a lounge area and a pool. Jay Murphy holds the listing.

The 45-year-old Mullen leaves Mississippi State as the second-winningest coach in the history of the program, which he led from 2009-17. His wife, Megan Mullen, is a sports journalist who has covered the NFL and college football. Mullen served as offensive coordinator for the Gators from 2005-08.

"Megan and I are very excited to get back to Gainesville and the University of Florida,” Mullen said in a statement to USA Today. "I have such great memories of the championships we won during our time here and have a love for Florida. We are happy to be coming back to such a supportive administration, staff, student body and fan base, which is the premier football program in the country.”

How the hell do you build a 9600 foot high end material luxury house for presumably less than 1,350,000? It just doesn't add up. Do folks actually get paid for labor out there, because it seems like you pay for materials and the labor is free. If that house was out here in SoCal but in a sh*t-hole like say San Bernardino it would be 3 million. Put it in Newport beach or Santa Monica and it would be 8-15 million depending on how close to the water it was.

I'll give you 3 reasons: location, location, location. The real difference is that millions more people would love to live in Newport or Santa Monica (or just about anywhere on the coast from San Diego to Santa Barbara), yet hardly anyone actually wants to live in Starkville.

Nail on the head, except that the masses who drive the market are nuts. If given the choice between Starkville and anywhere in or near coastal california, I’ll take Cowbell.

Have any of y’all ever been to Starkville? I’d be surprised if the entire town pool their yearly salary that they be able to come up with 1.5 million.

I lived in MS for a year and decided to drive through. So I drove through and didn't stop.

Yep, California is full of fruits and nuts, but it has a lot going in its favor, too. I'll take year round clear skies, low humidity, and 78 degrees over Starkville any day.

It's Mississippi = stolen materials.
Also, better check the University Building Fund?

When I was 13 our family took a 3-week trip in a motor home from Lakeland to Mexico City, Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico and back. It generated dozens of cherished memories in our family.

Among them was my dad’s utter disdain for Mississippi coming out in great clarity. We camped in Biloxi on the way out and he expressed his disgust at length and loudly. One the way home, he threatened to drive around it but mom objected to the 1,000 mile detour and he settled for not stopping.

My point being, may you never be consigned by fate to life in the aptly named Starkville.

I saw this gif a few days ago. I imagine the internal thoughts going something like this.

"Oh, he should have this....wait, are you f...how did he just...this is unbelievable....I don't...really?...I don't even know what to...(long sigh)...and you're back off scholarship."
