No love at all for Dwayne Schintzius?:dunno:

Career 14.8 ppg, 7.5 rpg. We never made the Big Dance before he got here, and we got there in all three of his full seasons. I believe he is still the only player in SEC history to amass 1,000 points, 800 boards, 250 blocks, and 250 assists. Don Devoe was a cocksucker. I never blamed him for leaving.

good point GW. Never danced till then. Dewayne was not really interest in basketball but was pragmatic enough to know it was
a meal ticket and his thing. He was a great passer. Funny story, Good friends of mine sat behind the bench. Kenny Mc the asst coach gave them tix. My friend said one night some woman was just railing at DW all night. Giving him sh#t the whole time. Finally, Mindy asked he r

why she was so hard on DW. She replied. " I can cause he is my son."
I interviewed Keller in the late '80s. He was working as a realtor. We met at a restaurant on Gulf to Bay in Clearwater with a magnificent 100-plus years old oak tree to the side. T
Im so jealous of all the real gators you have met and talked to. Just meeting the Tom McEwen would make my life. I will buy you a meal and drinks just to hear some stories about your gator journalism.
I remember Georgia and Dominique Wilkins coming to the O'Dome
The highest I ever saw someone go up in a live game was Wilkins catching an off. rebound I Swear close to the top of the backboard and dunking it...........He had springs............

Noah developed a post up game and was UNSTOPPABLE down low. Remember when Noah scored 37 against UGA?? He was hitting from EVERYWHERE that day. Even hit a 3 pointer that day. Horford did too and had more of a mid range jumper game.

This was the most important performance and game in UF basketball history. Of course Brewer hit the most important shot in UF basketball history.

but Jayson Williams did beat UK when they won a national title
He had one three pt shooter on the team to pass to.

I really liked your post and all the players you mentioned, BUT J. Williams played with:

1. Weaks who made 50.8% of 120 3 point attempts that year.

2. Stoltz who made 43.8% of 131 3 point attempts that year.

3. Shannon who made 32.3% of 124 3 point attempts that year.

4. and even Wright who made 36.2 on 47 3 point attempts that year.

So J. Williams played with plenty of shooters. Heck I considered Weaks as a SG since he shot 42.7% on 464 attempt in his career.

You mean layup, dunk and put-back? Yes, very good at all three. That doesn't make him a "scorer" in my book.

And, no, Sas, he doesn't need to consistently drain 20-footers, but even you have to admit that form is comical.

His form is even more comical knowing he was a guard until his rather sudden growth spurt. The passing and even his ability to bring the ball up court remained - but what guard ever shot like that?

Still, all things considered, he is my favorite Gator hoops player of all time. His meteoric improvement from his freshman to sophomore year lit the whole team and program up to unprecedented levels.

My 5:

C - Noah
PF - Horford
SF - Mike Miller
SG - Mad Max
PG - Wilbekin

6th Man - Lee for 3

Bench:

Brewer
Green
Schintzius
Lee
Chiozza
Parsons

Sorry, Jason Williams can’t make my list in 20 games. He was amazing, though.

That was who I remembered JW passing to when the lane closed.
This was the team I thought played UF so tough but thought Corey hit a shot late that sealed it. The score says Im nuts
Florida defeated the upstart George Mason Patriots, the No. 11 seed from the Washington, D.C. regional, by a score of 73–58 in the national semifinals in Indianapolis.

I forgot to mention this in an earlier reply. Vernon Delancy had a jump shot about as weird as Joakim's foul shot. He got up so high he shot the ball in front of his body and it was a two handed jump shot.
Weird. And just saw this on my search and he got NO LOVE in here.

The day after the Bulls drafted him, the Chicago media was abuzz about the new freak in town. A Tribune columnist, in a piece headlined YOU MUST BE JOAKIM, promised to eat his column with salsa if Noah turned out to be a good player. He would later hold true on that promise.

I emailed the paper's NBA beat writer, Sam Smith, to tell him how wrong I felt they all were about Noah, and I warned that the foul shot with the sideways spin was a thing to behold. I'll be on the lookout, he wrote back.

Next day I opened the Trib website to see a column from Smith on Noah including a reference to the ultra-unorthodox foul shot with the sideways spin. I laughed.

Noah was beloved in Chicago.

The amusing thing would be to see if any of us picked the same five 3.5 years later.
When I made my picks in my thread I forgot about Beal because he was a one and done. That guy was so good, but unselfish to a fault. If he would have stuck all 4 years he could have gone down as the greatest in UF history.

I had Green as my pick over JWill. But the other ones the same. Relatively consistent I guess...

His grandfather sacrificed a lot of chickens before watching him play that day. I was there. Noah was unstoppable.

And Williams only played 20 games with the Gators and was booted in February of that year for pot, the 3rd time he'd been caught. Great skills, but a guy who can't even finish a whole season shouldn't be considered an all time great.
